“Beautiful retreat with history galore”
Reviewed October 22, 2010

Fantastic time of the year to travel during the peak of foliage in October. Sometimes the crowds are a bit large on the tours (we couldn't go see her upstairs bedroom as we had over 5 people in the group) but the National Park Ranger who did the tour was great. Overly impressed with how much of the original furnishings are still in the house today.
We could feel Eleanor's presence there---awesome grounds, tour, and memories.

“First stop”
Reviewed August 3, 2010

This was mor einteresting than the FDR home a lot more personal and you can see why Eleanor liked the setting. Our tour was cut hort because too many people. Frustrating because rangers were standing aroudn talkinga nd could have helped us all have the full experience. The film and guide were very informative and it was the bet of the sites in Hyde Park.

“Interesting cottage but short tour”
Reviewed October 25, 2007

I enjoyed visiting Val Kill Cottage. I expected to see more rooms. They only have the first floor open to the public. The furniture is not all original but of the period. I think we saw four rooms. Worth the $8 price. The tour guide was very interesting. Just being in her cottage was neat. Do the FDR Home and Museum first if you only have time for one tour.
