My mom and I stopped by Val Kill on our way home from the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival. Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to explore the grounds and the other properties around Hyde Park. I'm already considering a trip back at the same time next year to enjoy the beautiful folliage and see more of the area!

We took the guided tour of Val Kill, which ran a little over an hour. Our guide was absolutely wonderful - her passion for both Eleanor Roosevelt as well as the properties and history of the area was evident. She kept her group well engaged and entertained throughout the tour of the cottage, and by the time we left we almost felt as though we had been guests there ourselves. This attraction is not to be missed!

Lucky Eleanor! We all should have a place to which we can retreat when the world becomes too much to bear. Her beloved Val-Kill is nestled in the quiet woods. It is wonderful that we can visit here and imagine what it might have been like to be married to FDR, entertain the famous and powerful of the 1940's and grow into a powerful, influential woman in her own right.
