We learned so much about Eleanor Roosevelt. Seeing her in this quite humble cottage put her in her own context which made her even more special. Highly recommend on every level.

You will be surprised at the impact Mrs. Roosevelt made on the world, in both her husband's work and her own. Like him, she was either loved or hated; few people had no opinion about her. However, put aside your prejudices and take a look at her accomplishments. No, I do not particularly concur with either of their ideals; but this place gives the visitor an insight into their thinking through the eyes of others.

The place is not as pristine as one would expect these days, but still it is a glimpse of what was in another era. Tourists who are not from this area might be interested to knos that this as all part of the Roosevelt estate, and there was no connector road between 9 and 9G in those days.

There is a great sense of history in this small cottage and land. Politics aside, this was the home of a grand lady who might not have been liked by all, but she was respected.

She could have lived anywhere in luxury but chose this modest cozy paneled retreat to first escape from her infamous mother-in-law, and after the death of FDR received many famous people including JFK who ate meatloaf at her table from Franciscan ware!!! A great woman who truly lived simply and well.

ER was more than one assumed. she was a champion of human rights way before it was popular or fashionable. I felt a great deal of respect for her after the visit. The home was modest, her work was awesome
