“Even more fascinating than I expected!”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

My companion and I visited this site not knowing what to expect. It turned out to be a fascinating, educational and memorable time. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and responsive to the group's questions. He even gave us tips for debunking some misinformation that circulates regarding the Roosevelts. You felt you understood the man and his family by the end of the tour. The grounds are beautiful and photography (no flash) is allowed inside the home. The lift was out of order during our stay but I assume under usual circumstance the home is handicapped accessible.

Don't miss this!

“Wonderful Museum”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

This is part of the National Parks Service and if you have a Golden Age Passport, you and a guest get in for free. The Visitor's Center is lovely with a terrific film to view before the tour. Our guide was great; she is a history major and worked there for the summer. The home is fascinating and our guide gave us insights into the family that I never knew. The grounds are gorgeous and peaceful. The only negative was that the Library was scheduled to re-open on Sunday (after extensive renovations) and we had to leave a few days prior. You should also drive over to Val-Kil, Eleanor Roosevelt's house which is only a mile or so away.

“Must do, if close”

Interesting home and history of the only president to have been born, lived and died in his home (actually his mothers). All, or 99% of furniture is same as when FDR died in 1945.

“Excellent”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We were taken on an excellent tour by Mike. The tour was of the house and stables. The Library is included in the ticket (but not the tour). For us Brits this was amazing value, compared with similar properties over here. We bought a combined ticket for here, the Vanderbilt Mansion and Val-Kill. At $22 this was a real bargain, the houses are so close that it was not a rush at all.
