Interesting home and history of the only president to have been born, lived and died in his home (actually his mothers). All, or 99% of furniture is same as when FDR died in 1945.

“Excellent”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We were taken on an excellent tour by Mike. The tour was of the house and stables. The Library is included in the ticket (but not the tour). For us Brits this was amazing value, compared with similar properties over here. We bought a combined ticket for here, the Vanderbilt Mansion and Val-Kill. At $22 this was a real bargain, the houses are so close that it was not a rush at all.

“Presidential Ambition”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

This is a lovely period house with an intact collection. That should be reason enough to warrant a visit. But the insight into the Roosevelt family's ambition from an early period is fascinating. I was especially struck by the use of an large dumb waiter that Franklin used to haul himself upstairs rather than a proper elevator.

“A good look at FDR”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

We loved this gorgeous Visitor Center, with the informative film to start the tour. The grounds and gardens are beautiful and peaceful. The house is fascinating, well preserved & evokes the era well. You can visualize FDR and his family using this modest home, and it's a strong contrast to the opulent, excessive Vanderbilt mansion. Our Ranger gave a humorous and thorough explanation of everything. Combined with the FDR library -- a must-see -- this gave me a base understanding of the man and his times so that I am now reading his biography. Also: the cafe in the Center has a good and wide selection of salads, soups and sandwiches, priced very reasonably, and the spacious Gift Shop has a large array of items, including books and videos.
