Owner description: Visit FDR's 1826 home that remains almost exactly as it was at the time of the president's death in 1945, including the stables, icehouses, a walking trail, and the graves of Franklin and Eleanor located in the Rose Garden.

Great home and great guide through the home, but due to renovations, only the first floor is available to be seen at present. Wait until later in the summer 2012 to go so you can see the whole thing. Everything is as it was - dining room table set, television in FDR's office, photos of sailboats, custom wheelchair by the fireplace. Doesn't take long to go through. Visitor center/gift shop is great, definitely see the film before the tour!
Helpful hint: Visit with someone who has a lifetime National Park Pass (both my parents do) - admission is waived for up to 3 people with each pass. We did pay to go into the presidential library on the same site though - $5 each.

During the holiday season, the home is decorated and at times offers period readings/presentations. While this is a lovely time to visit the home, it is a bit cold for strolling around the grounds. In summer you can walk the grounds, including trails to the riverfront. Lovely visit.

It is nice to see that a wealthy American family didn't try to build a European villa as their residence

Very well worth the drive from the city. Its a fantastic area, especially during the autumn. The house is well presented and the musium really humanises a well known historical figure. The written materials are insightful and I leanred a great deal about an importnt American man and his equally accomplished wife.
