“"Home-cooking" in chilled out cafe”
Reviewed May 27, 2012

The cooking came recommended from our hosts at Cimarron Rose B & B and they were right. Quality use of fresh ingredients made a big impact, enjoyed out on the deck watching the sun go down. All the diners very friendly, plus a live harpist. Great value for money

“We drove 90 miles to eat here and would do it again!”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

Last night a group of 4 friends traveled 90 miles to eat at Ancient Way Cafe. Every mouthful was worth it. The dinner of the night was, in my simple terms, shrimp with mango and green chili sauce but it was called something much more elegant than that. It was served with a fresh salad and home made dressing, some mouthwatering polenta type side dish, asparagus with mushrooms and a marinated fruit. We ate every bite. And then ordered desert: a decadent chocolate raspberry cake, tart cherry pie, and 7 layer butterscotch cookies. We also took home muffins and scones. All baked on the premises!
While dining we enjoyed the peaceful live music from a woman with a small harp. The evening meals are a fixed menu and fixed price and they always have a vegetarian option.
The upcoming month's menu is posted in the Gallup Journey magazine.
The dining room is very small so I highly recommend a reservation for dinner. The interior walls are knotty pine with local artwork displayed and for sale. There is a small deck for outside enjoyment. Atmosphere is casual despite the upscale gourmet food. They have espresso and latte coffee drinks and homemade pie for a late afternoon snack break. They also serve breakfast and lunch. Combine eating at Ancient Way with visiting the El Morro Old School Gallery, El Morro National Monument, the Wolf Sanctuary or Ramah's Farmers Market.

“Good food, relaxing atmosphere!”
Reviewed March 17, 2012

Took a trip to Gallup with friends in February and we drove the more scenic route down NM53. We stopped for lunch here but they were closed for that day. But we had heard good things about the place so the next day coming home to Santa Fe we made the trip back to Ramah. It was so worth it. With the eclectic atmosphere and the great food we were glad we decided to go back. The food was extrememly tasty and we had great service. We got plenty of attention and felt very welcomed. I plan on going back in the Spring.

“Great food.”

This cafe is remote and largely frequented by locals. The salsa was very good and the beef brisket was the best that I have had.
