The room thermostat was set at 78° which was a bit warm. I reset the thermostat to 73° and the room did not cool down. By the next morning, the temperature was only 75°. We did not sweat but only slept under the sheets.

The room electrical outlets need to be changed because plugins could not hold the cords of items plugged into them.

The breakfast was good. A waitress takes your order for eggs, sausage, hash browns and biscuits with gravy. Very pleasant.

Overall it was a pleasant stay in a clean motel.

Room Tip: Make sure the AC works. The east side rooms are bright when the sun comes up over the mountains.

We wanted to stay in Grants since our (grown) son wanted to see the Bandera Volcano and Ice Cave the next day. We saw signs all over the hotel that they wanted to be #1 on Trip Advisor. They had plenty of luggage carts, and they gave us a first floor room, which impressed us since we had just made the reservation that morning.
We needed to do laundry since we had been on the road for quite a while. We located it on the hotel diagram and realized it was upstairs. When we got upstairs, we found one coin washer and one coin dryer. For as big a hotel as this, we were a little surprised, but fortunately they were not in use. Later we wanted to get some ice, so consulted the diagram again, but there were no ice machines on that side of the building despite what the diagram showed. We finally called the front desk and found out there was one ice machine on the other side of the building.
The upholstered chair in the room had a stain on it, but it did look like they had scrubbed the rug. Overall, the place was fine for an overnight stay, but if they want to be #1 on TripAdvisor, they are going to have to repair/ replace things faster like the big chains do.

Stayed here for two nights over Memorial Day Weekend. The hotel was a Best Western that had been taken over by the Red Lion brand. Not quite the level of the other Red Lions I have stayed at in Spokane and Pocatello, but the staff (Cody and Roxanne) were outstandingly great. When I made my reservation, I got the dates wrong. Cody searched the computer, we called reservations and then discovered my mistake. No problem. Cody got us in, gave us a gift bag and off we went. The rest of the staff was just as outstanding as they were.

However, the property is a little dated, but well kept. The room was a little musty smelling, but that cleared up with the ac/heater in a few minutes. It was very comfortable after two long days driving. There is in-room wi-fi, but it is a little spotty in terms of service. The free breakfast was, forgettable to say the least. Judging from other reviews, perhaps the cook was having a bad day.

We stayed there with our Golden Retriever, so I assume we were in a pet room. A tip, if you are a Red Lion R&R Club Member, there is no pet fee! A lesson some of their competitors have forgotten.

I am a big fan of Red Lion and they did not disappoint. I am glad to see them moving south. How bout Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Las Cruces next guys?

We stayed at the Red Lion in Grants on our way to Las Vegas. Great price. The room was clean and comfortable. My only complaint (if you could call it that) was that the remote didn't work. So had to change the channels the old school way! The breakfast was excellent. It was Mother's Day and the guy in charge of the kitchen had made a special orange waffle batter in honor of the day. Yum! The rest of our breakfast was made to order. The staff was friendly and efficient. Check-in and check-out were a breeze. We'd stay here again!.

If you ever wanted to sample what it was like to stay on the old route 66, this is the place. This hotel must have been one of the queens on 66. Hotel is a little dated but our room was large ( unlike the newer type chain hotels), very clean. The people were very accommodating and nice. The full free breakfast was nice. Register at redlion, com and the room rate is a steal. Up the road from the hotel is the town of grant, which gives you a view of what the small towns along 66 were like. Skip all the other hotels at the exit and stay at the Red Lion hotel, you will not regret it.

Room Tip: We stayed on first floor as no elevator to second floor

The beds were very comfortable and breakfast was good. The only thing I didnt like was the carpet. It was pretty stained and looked like it needed replacing. Other than that, everything was excellent. It was a very good value.

We go through Grants a couple of times a year and decided to try the Red Lion because it was cheap and had decent reviews. At around $50, we were skeptical, so we asked the desk clerk if we could look at our room first. The key cards didn't work when we went up to the room, so he gave us the room next door. We walked back up to the 2nd floor (no elevators) and the room was fairly modern and very clean. We decided to stay. We soon discovered that one of the key cards didn't work on this room. But no big deal.

After we returned from dinner it was getting cool, and we turned on the heat. It didn't seem to work. I called the desk.......no answer. I walked down to the desk and the 2 people there said they had been on the phone taking a reservation. I explained the problem and they sent up a guy to investigate. He fiddled around and said that the heat worked but was very quiet. I humored him and sent him on his way. The heat never worked, but we tossed both covers on one bed and were comfortable (they don't have any extra blankets).

The shower drain needed cleaning......you got a full tub whether you want it or not.

Bottom line..... I bet there are good rooms at the Red Lion, and the good ones have to be about the best deal on Interstate 40. I would have raised hell if I was paying $100. But at $50 I didn't even complain.

Room Tip: Investigate before you invest. Check the HVAC and the other utilities. If they work, you scored a...
