We shared a filet mignon -- perfectly cooked medium rare and excellent. The baked potatoes were baked, not microwave and served with ample sour cream and butter. Service was prompt and efficient despite the crowd -- every table was filled. We were surprised to find a good wine, a cabernet from Paso Robles -- rare in our stops along I-40. It is a little hard to find, but worth the effort.

La Ventana has a well-rounded menu with prime rib, steaks, fish, salads, etc. This is not a gourmet restaurant by any means, much more a local favorite for a good Friday night dinner A special plus is a really good wine list, with virtually all wines available by the glass-- and at reasonable prices.

I had the New York Strip (10oz, $20.25) with a salad and baked potato. My wife enjoyed a Grilled Salmon Salad ($12.99). Both were very good. A Cherry Cheesecake ($6.99) for dessert was delicious.

Even with a full house on a Friday evening, we appreciated La Ventana's relatively quiet atmosphere. It was nice not to have to strain to carry on a conversation at our table. Service was fast and friendly.

Bottom line, La Ventana is a good place for a good dinner! We'd come here again if we were overnighting in Grants.

Recommended.

We went here for the last night that we were in town visiting El Malpais. The food was fantastic. Definitely the best restaurant in town. We had steaks and they were juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. We would highly recommend La Ventana to anyone looking for a great meal.

We travel to AZ from CO with some regularity. Our experience had been that the space between Albuquerque and Flagstaff was basically a quality restaurant desert. This year, I used my smartphone and searched 'best restaurants in Grants, NM' and hit the jackpot! La Ventana is now our Western New Mexico dinner destination. Great food, and lots of it. They bring chips and salsa and a basket with bread. Side salads are pretty generous. Portions are very generous! I had the Chicken Fried Steak - delicious. Moderately priced. Great vibe. There were multiple tables with couples, families, and apparently a business meeting at the table to my right. It's a great fit for just about any occasion. I'm so glad we found La Ventana - just wish we'd found it earlier. We have eaten way too many fast food 'meals' over the years.

If driving on Interstate 40, take Exit 85, with right turn on to North Santa Fe Ave.
Drive about 2 miles into the town of Grants. Right hand turn on to Geis Street. (The restaurant would be on the right, in the middle of the block. The parking is adequate, but the lack of lighting, makes it difficult to see. Not visible from Santa Fe Ave.

If you pass the O'Riley's Auto Parts store, you have missed the street. If that is the case, make a right turn on next street. Right Turn on the back street of the shopping center. Another Right Turn will put you back onto Geis Street. The restaurant is on the left, if you miss the opportunity to find Geis Street the first time.

An interesting place, where the locals go & they notice if you are a stranger.
The menu is diverse. We tried 2 different Burrito items. The Sheep Herder was filled with spicy meat. Beware of the red sauce, which is to be the mild one. It made our lips & tongue burn. The margaritas were very good. The Servers were attentive & smiled when we said the red sauce was very spicy. Since the peppers are grown in the area, we probably should have had the sauce in a dish, so we could test it. Gave me a good excuse to get some ice cream.
They are celebrating 50 years in business, so they are doing something right.
There are several TV's if someone can't miss the sports games.
