1863 Inn of Gettysburg
Ranked #11 of 28 Hotels in Gettysburg
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 25, 2011

Stayed in King Room - Annex, no pets. Had view of pool and no noticeable traffic noise. Parking was plentiful and convenient. Room was clean, attractive, and of good size - A/C fan stayed on between cycles and thin blanket provided was much better than heavy duvets that many other hotels have. Had dinner at Dobbin House - short walk (1-2 blocks); recommend making a reservation; food was very good (esp Duck). Price of 1863 Inn was relatively low, especially compared to B&Bs. Breakfast had good assortment of food, including hot items. Considering quality of accomodations and location, this must be one of the best values in Gettysburg. Tip - Join Loyalty Program to get a small discount for current visit plus significant discounts for future visits. New Gettysburg Civil War Museum (Park Service) was excellent; also toured Eisenhower Farmstead.

Room Tip: Annex, pool view - no pets in these rooms.

I have stayed at the 1863 a few time over the last couple of years. I reported this summer that I was not happy, but I'm glad to report things are much better.

I just finished a 4 day stay at this hotel, and I couldn't be happier. The room was very clean, and well set up. I can't begin to tell what a great nights sleep I got, and the extra pillows were wonderful. Lighting was bright but not glaring. As always the best part of the hotel is its location. I never had to move my car once I got there, as you can walk to everything.

My only complaint with this trip, isn't even anything the hotel can control. The twice nightly [one at 8pm and one at 10pm] ghost trips ended right outside of my room, and those guys are loud.

I am so glad to hear that your stay was enjoyable! We take all comments very seriously and when you pointed out that there were some issues with your last stay we took action to correct them! I see you were in our 1863 room! That room is beautiful and seems to be a big hit. We would like to do more rooms with that old time theme. It certainly fits the area. You are correct-the location is just great! Park and walk to mostly everything! Thank you for taking the time to post the review! Again-I am very pleased that this stay was a big sucess! We try very hard to make sure that every guest enjoys their visit. If you ever have a problem please make sure that you report it to our front desk staff. They will be happy to help you and are available 24/7!
Thank you again! Hope to see you soon!

I stayed here one night recently and it was a great little hotel. The rooms were clean, had a fridge (big plus), and a nice new TV. The beds were comfy but I agree with most reviewers that the pillows are not great. There is a free breakfast but I did not attend. The rooms are situated so that the entryway is outside (there's no typical hallways) which was nice for the view but I feel safer with interior entrances. You are literally in the heart of Gettysburg and I was able to easily walk to see some sights and get dinner.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on your recent stay with us. We were happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit. The location of the hotel is great! So easy to park the car and walk to most of the attractions. The next time you visit you must try our Free "Rise and Shine" Breakfast. It offers a good selection of both hot and cold items to start your day. Our exterior corridors are wonderful for sitting out in the evening. The town is so beautiful and there is so much to see. I will pass your comments regarding the pillows along to our Executive Housekeeper. I do aplogize if they were not satisfactory. We are in the process of replacing the pillows but have not completed the entire building as of yet. For future reference there is someone on duty at our Front Desk 24/7. Please do not hesitate to call the desk if there is anything that you need. They will be happy to assist you with any issues or questions.
We do hope that you will visit us in the future. Gettysburg has much to offer. Thank you again for the review.

I was very nervous about staying in this hotel since it was not a chain. I also fear dirty rooms. The hotel was extremely clean!!! I loved my room!! The hotel was in the perfect location and every attraction is in walking distance. The price of the room was reasonable and the staff was helpful.

The 1863 is great because of it's prime location. Right in the middle of town making it possible to walk to most locations. The staff are always friendly and kind. There's a free breakfast which I always love because a lot of hotels don't offer that anymore. The rooms are clean, and the rates very affordable. They even allow pets which is nice to know! A lot of people complain about noise outside but your right in town so it has it's ups and downs. It's still only Gettysburg so it's not like hearing major city traffic. What I really enjoy is their lobby. It's small but very cozy, with old books and comfy chairs, and complimentary tea and coffee. If your looking for something cozy and affordable this is it.

Visited for first time to Gettysburg, checked in 9/20 and stayed four nights. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, good breakfast. Our room faced the main road and the only complaint we had was the truck traffic noise. The location is great for walking to so many restaurants and shops! The front desk staff gave excellent tips on where to eat, loved O'Rorkes, not so much the Dobbin house Tavern. Do not eat fish and chips at the little cafe across the street from the hotel, really bad.
The front desk suggested we use the guides at the battlefield for our tour and this was a wonderful suggestion, great value we paid $55.00 for 1 hour and we had six people in the car. You have your own private guide driving your vehicle, makes it very personal.
Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to family and friends.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a wonderful review of our property! We are glad that we could make your first visit to Gettysburg an enjoyable one! It is such a beautiful little town! We do our best to provide each guest with a comfortable, clean room. The Front Desk staff is very helpful when it comes to making suggestions on how to see the town. There is so much to see and do it tends to be confusing if you don't have the correct information on where to start. We hope that you will be back to visit with us again. There are many events being planned for the 150th Anniversary in 2013! If you return please ask about our "Loyalty Program" for repeat guests! Huge savings on the rate! Thank you again for the review! We sure do like to hear that we are doing a good job! You are always welcome at the 1863 Inn of Gettysburg!!

A friend and I just returned from a week in Pennsylvania. We spent two days in this hotel and location, location, location. Across the street from Dobbins House, near a battlefield and within walking distance to the downtown. Also a great German restaurant was across the street. Beds were comfortable, no noise , Parking , swimming pool and sundeck. Breakfast was generous.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor. Very quiet.
