“This was far beyond my expectations!”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

I booked this hotel on the Internet , sight unseen. I don't usually do that, but I decided to give it a try. What a great experience!! This hotel is in the city square, and is the oldest hotel in the city. Newly restored and beautiful! Lots of history on the walls, lovely decor. Great restaurant (One Lincoln). Food was amazing. Employees were very friendly and professional. Lots of shops close by and historical buildings are everywhere. The only downside is that you have to pay for parking. But it was worth it to stay in such a beautiful historic building. I will stay there again!

Second time at the Gettysburg Hotel. Overall was happy with our stay. Some things have changed since the last time we stayed. The last time we stayed, continental breakfast was included. This time it was not. I asked where I could get coffee in the morning (as opposed to the in room coffee) and was told to go to the One Lincoln restaurant who promptly charged me 2.50 per cup of coffee. The rooms were not ready at check in time (4 PM). Finally ready at 5 PM. This was an inconvenience as we had dinner plans that needed to be adjusted. Overall the rooms were very nice, spacious, clean and quiet. Bathrooms were also clean. Beds were confortable. Nice pool as well. Try not to stay on the front side facing the square.

Asked for a late check out. Just some extra time and was told that I could have until 11:30. Not very accommodating considering I gave them an extra hour at check in time. Wasn't a problem though as we were out by 11:30.

Parking isn't available You can meter park (2 hour limit) or use the garage located behind the hotel. While the garage is convenient, one would think that as a hotel guest that you would get a discounted rate.

Room Tip: Room not on the Square are quieter. If staying overnight on a saturday night, search for a metered p...

First of all, IGNORE the hogwash reviews of historic semantics. Who cares? The building is on the National Historic Registry and has been renovated beautifully. Is it the Waldorf? No way, however it is nearly perfect in every way because:
-modern amenities
- you can stroll to all the downtown pubs, shops, restaurants
-self-serve park right behind for $10/day ( no valet parking)
-relax after a poignant day at the battleground/museum
-rent a nice size fridge for $10/day
-free wifi
-sit on a bench out front and people watch right on the old town square
-very friendly and professional staff
-it's spotlessly clean (there was a gentleman touching up the curb paint at the rear entrance as well as in the lobby!)
I am not a picky, snobby traveler. I have a passion for new adventures. That said, we stayed in a king jacuzzi suite at the front of the hotel. If you are a light sleeper, you may want to opt for a rear room as the traffic circle IS quite active. We were here for Saturday and Sunday nights. Saturday was noisy, mainly because this seems to be a popular biker destination and there were some mighty hogs traversing the downtown area. No big deal....part of the Americana landscape of Gettysburg. Take earplugs or plug into your favorite white sound if you like a mid- afternoon siesta like moi! When we return to Gettysburg, we will stay here again. I got a great rate at the AARP Expedia site.
THANK YOU!

Room Tip: Lots of noise at the front of the hotel...even up high in 512.

We have been staying at The Gettysburg Hotel for the past 15 years. I always felt it was the most desirable place to stay in Gettysburg because of it's close proximity to historical museums, restaurants, antique and art shops. The Square is always beautiful. The Hotel is very modern and clean.
However I do miss the charimg restaurant, with the fireplace. This room is now a media center.

We chose this hotel to have an historic experience with our Grandson. This is NOT an historic hotel. It looks historic from the outside, but they have so con-temporized the inside you'd think you were in a brand new Sheraton!!! We were sorely disappointed!! And they gave us a suite that "sleeps 4". Well... the sofa bed that they say sleeps 2 should be outlawed!! It was awful. We padded it with SIX blankets just to make it bearable. We asked for another room and were told there was none. This was truly one of the worst hotel experiences we've had.

Room Tip: Do not choose the King Junior Suite if you really need the extra bed. You cannot sleep on the sofa b...

Thank you for providing your candid feedback on TripAdvisor. It’s unfortunate that our hotel didn’t meet your expectations. We are very proud of our recent renovation and feel that appropriate changes were made to give travelers the updated amenities they expect while instilling an upscale and timeless ambiance in our décor.

I’m sorry that you did not find the pull-out option in our junior suite more accommodating. Your comments regarding the pull-out has been noted and although they are new, our team will be inspecting them and working to determine how to improve the experience for our future guests that choose to use them.

This hotel is not only in a great spot but when you walk in the lobby you smell cleanliness. This fresh scent follows you all the way to your room. Nice beds, furniture & historic feel. Convenient, reasonably priced parking directly behind the building. Extremely friendly staff & for location the rates are at a great family price.

The Gettysburg Hotel is under new management and they've spent a small fortune to completely renovate the historic establishment...lobby, rooms, restaurant, meeting rooms, everything. There isn't a better location in town, right on the square, close to shops and shopping and antiques and art galleries and restaurants and bookstores. This was our seventh trip to Gettysburg, our third to the Gettysburg Hotel. We arranged for a suite overlooking the square with a king-sized bed. It couldn't have been more enjoyable. Convenience is the name of the game. Make reservations well in advance -- we make ours a year in advance to avoid any hassles -- in case of re-enactors' weekends or 150th anniversaries or motorcycle weekends. One glitch: the parking fee in the adjacent garage used to be picked up by the hotel. No longer. I was told the city has stepped in and collects all fees. The garage is very convenient, however, and the fee isn't over the top. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant was excellent. The menu covers everything. Personable staff. Honestly, if you had stayed at the hotel prior to 2013, you wouldn't recognize the place today, except for the exterior which remains of a classic nature.

Room Tip: My wife and I have stayed at the hotel on three occasions, twice before the recent renovation. We ha...
