We stayed here in the spring over Mother's Day weekend and were pleased with this hotel. The hotel was recently remodeled and has a nice boutique hotel feel. The Gettysburg Hotel offers the best location to experience the historic town of Gettysburg. For Lincoln history buffs, the David Wills House is across the street from the hotel. It is the house where Lincoln spent the night before the Gettyburg Address. A good diner (the Lincoln Diner) is a block down the hill. Note: Get details on the special dinners at the hotel before attending. The Mother's Day buffet had a corporate feel to it. It was buffet style in the ballroom. Enjoy the local restaurants instead. There was good bar food at the attached restaurant/bar.

We stayed in the VIP suite which includes a large hot tub in the bathroom. This tub will seat 4 comfortably.
The room has been recently renovated but the tub looks like it was not replaced and was missing a knob.
The bedroom area included a remote controlled gas fireplace and a wall mounted large flat screen TV. There was a sofa and a upholstered chair as well as a desk with an office chair.
The king size bed was comfortable and we slept well.
Parking is at a premium at this downtown hotel and we advanced paid for parking in the parking garage.
The staff was very pleasant and attentive.

This was our fourth stay at the Gettysburg Hotel in less than 3 years, and the first since the recent renovations. We were impressed with the updated look of the hotel. The service from the prompt and friendly staff was outstanding. The rooms are clean and comfortable. And the location just cannot be beat in Gettysburg. This is a five star hotel. But I must drop a star because no breakfast is included, and it costs extra to park. If such things are not important to you, then by all means stay at this hotel if you are visiting Gettysburg

I can't understand some of the other reviews left here, some since we stayed. We stayed for one night, thought the hotel was really nice - beautifully furnished public areas, spacious and spotless room, friendly and helpful staff and a nice bar with a very reasonable happy hour. Free internet too on computer in lobby, and fruit laid out in bowls, Only down side was the rooftop pool being closed, but given the storm earlier in the day that was understandable. Right in the middle of town, this was without a doubt a great, reasonably priced, alternative to the chain hotels we passed on the way in. If I ever had reason to return to Gettysburg, this would be my choice.

This Hotel which is a historic fixture in Gettysburg PA was a great respit after a hot sunny and exhausting day at the 150th Anniversary Reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg. We had a double Queen room that was a little expensive because of fixed pricing but worht it. There was plenty of space in the room, the AC worked great, Parking was close and they validated the ticket so it was free.

the Restaurant was more casual than fine in its atmosphere served some very nice dishes. My wife and a nice mixed salad with a really nice cut of New York Strip and it was as good if not better than steaks we have had at nicer (atmosphere) venues in the Harrisburg PA area. I had a very nice Hearts of Romain Salad with a taste italian with fresh graded Parmesan Cheese, it was very taste. I had a Spicy Shimp dish that was very nice and not overly filling, perfect. I would recomend this restaurant and the prices were reasonable for Hotel food.

Room Tip: If you are going to view the Reenactment Book in advance the price is still the same but the room ch...

I've stayed here twice: once years ago before the renovations, and recently this past weekend when we were in town for the 150th commemoration. I have mixed feelings on the Gettysburg Hotel. Here's why:

The Pros:

~Excellent location, right in the heart of it all
~Gorgeous public spaces
~Friendly front desk staff
~On check-in, we were given a tote bag full of information on the 150th and the hotel validated parking in the garage. (They don't normally do this and we were expecting to pay for parking, so that was a nice surprise.)
~Fast elevators. Never had to wait for one, even thought the hotel was at full capacity.
~The room was large and lovely. We stayed in a deluxe room with a fireplace, fridge, and microwave. (The bathroom was a bit shabby, though.)
~It has a roof-top pool, which I took advantage of. (Though see my con below.)

The Cons:

~The thermostat won't go below 70. We were on the top floor and our room got pretty warm. Even though we had it set on 70, the temperature never dipped below 76. We would have liked to have been able to crank the AC more.
~The pillows were terrible. Very small and lumpy.
~The shower/whirlpool bath is hard to get in and out of. The hotel needs to put step stools in the bathrooms just to get in and out of the tub. I'm 37 and fit and I had a hard time getting in and out without falling.
~The noise from the street and the hallway. Our room fronted the square. At first we were thrilled with the view from our room, but quickly discovered the drawback that came with that view. I know they can't control people honking horns and shouting in the square (all. night. long.), but perhaps thicker windows would be in order. We were on the sixth floor and the noise the first night made it impossible to sleep.
~No coffee, tea, or water in the lobby. I was surprised and disappointed, as this is standard at most hotels these days. (I've seen some other reviewers say they had a free happy hour, but this was not the case when we visited.)
~Hostess couldn't be bothered to answer questions about the menu in the hotel restaurant so we walked out and did not eat there.
~Pool only has two umbrellas, one of which was broken, and the lifeguard was parked under the other. So zero shade up there.

Conclusion:

We paid $300 a night to stay here over the 150th weekend. Normally I would never pay that much for a room, but we wanted to be there that weekend and be in the heart of it all, and we expected high rates. I absolutely would not pay anywhere near that much to stay there again, especially for a hotel that doesn't offer free breakfast or refreshments in the lobby. If you can get it for $150 a night, you'd be getting a lot more value for your money. It is definitely a lovely hotel and the ambiance and location on the square cannot be beat, but if you're looking for perfection, you won't find it there.

Room Tip: If noise is a concern, sacrifice the fabulous view and ask for a room at the back of the hotel.
