We made reservations here one time to stay so we could perhaps experience a ghost or two. They messed up our reservations and when we called to confirm them we were told they had tried to call us to tell us that they were renovating and had cancelled our reservations. No one tried to call us and when speaking about the rooms and ghost activity we were told that " the ghosts were gone since we are remodeling". Ok. Sure thing.

Sat at the bar and had a great steak dinner with friends. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. The dining room is full of props from the movie "Gettysburg". A nice atmosphere.

Let me first say that I didn't eat at the restaurant, but just stopped in for drinks. In my research of Gettysburg before booking this trip, I knew that the Farnsworth House would be one of my stops- it's a place steeped in history that remains true to the era. The gardens between the main house and the museum would be a great place to be in summer--I loved the ivy-covered wall decorated with dozens of bird houses. The tavern itself was like stepping back in time--dark wood, low ceilings, dim lighting--it even smelled old (in a good way). The workers are dressed in 'period clothing,' which doesn't really add to the atmosphere but is all in good fun...I will say that the bartender was very friendly, and was happy to share stories of her own minor ghostly encounters and stories that she's heard over the years about more major encounters of others. No ghosts drank with us (at least none that made themselves known), but it was a great spot to take a break and soak up some original history. There's a nice display of memorabilia from the making of the movie, "Gettysburg" around the restaurant, but it was hard to get to if people were sitting at the tables. Certainly worth a stop!

The Farnsworth House's outdoor dining area is great, next to the bullet scarred wall and set back a little off the street. Good for people watching but better for eating. Spoon bread, pumpkin fritters, game pie, hot buttered rum, mmmmm. Everyone should try this place when visiting Gettysburg.

The game pie was delicious. The service was excellent. Too bad so many american soldiers were killed.
