“Farnsworth Tavern”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2012

We ate a light lunch at the tavern, not the house restaurant. Our lunch was very good, sharing a bowl of mussels and also a spinach dip with toasted bread. Four park service guides were having lunch and seemed to be "locals" that ate there frequently. Service was friendly. I can't comment on the house restaurant but I would definitely return to the tavern.

“So dissapointed in the food - LOVE the atmoshere”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

I went here 6 years ago and could not stop talking about the ShooFly Pie. It was SO good. So I took my husband here. I LOVE the "tavern" feel and the atmosphere. The outside garden area is beautiful. I ordered the BBQ and it was so bad that I could not eat it - and i was starving :( So then I ordered the ShooFly pie, what I had been looking forward to for sooooo long. The waitress came back and told me they were out of it. I almost cried. So, I would still recommend this place, but, do NOT get the BBQ and HOPE that they have the ShooFly Pie.

“Tourist prices, slow service and lackluster food.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

The Farnsworth house...is very visually charming...the staff was super friendly but super slow...the quality of the food is lacking. Roast beef was nothing but sliced deli meat. Hubby had the steak and said it was good...not great but good. Son had the burger and was satisfied...definitely not worth the $85 (tip included) Wouldn't go back...but wouldn't deter someone from trying it to judge for themselves.

“Love this place!!!! Good food and atmosphere!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

Love this place! The wait staff is dressed in period costume (Civil War). You can either eat outside on the tranquil patio or eat inside where there are items from the movie Gettysburg in a show case. The menu features a lot of good choices. They serve wine and beer here (try the Tears of Gettysburg white wine). The restaurant has bullet holes on the outside wall - you can still see them while sitting outside on the patio. There are fish in the fish pond and stautuary and a small stream. The patio sits a little back away from the street. There is parking in the back of the restaurant. We have eaten here for several years and it's always been great! Some of the choices (menu may change) are crab cake, french dip, soup and sandwich, meatloaf, slippery pot pie, game pie, goober peanut soup, Texas onion soup, grilled chicken salad, rum cream pie, Lancaster County shoofly pie, and so on.

“Favorite place in Gettysburg”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

We've eaten at Farnsworth on several trips to G-burg, and it's our very favorite. A building full of history (with bullet holes from 1863 to prove it) and historic atmosphere. The food, though, is the best part. Delicious entrees, some with Civil War period flavor (game pie, etc.) but a broad selection. I had a roast chicken entree that was wonderful; have also loved their pork shank. The servers dress in period costume, and are super-friendly and efficient. They have home-baked bread, and spoon bread with the meal. Desserts are great, too. Had a fine multi-layer chocolate cake. They have casual, tavern-atmosphere section (can be noisy) as well as the formal dining room. There are other very good restaurants in town, but this one is the best.
