“We lost our money also”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2006

This also happened to us. We drove over 600 miles and prepaid our tickets - almost $100.00- in February to attend Sunday, July 2 and happened to talk to someone on Saturday night who told us that the event had been cancelled. We would have showed up at the field on Sunday if we had not had the encounter with the person the night before. I e-mailed to see if we could get a refund and was also told that we could return the 2006 tickets and will receive a credit voucher for next year's enactment..
It would have been nice if we knew of the cancellation in advance so we could have changed our plans to stay four days in Gettysburg.. We did enjoy Gettysburg but was looking forward to the re-enactment. SO DON'T BUY YOUR TICKETS AHEAD.

“Reenactment MAJOR ripoff”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2006

We drove all the way from Boston only to discover that the 2006 reenactment had been rescheduled to the following weekend. Although the tickets said the reenactment would be held "rain or shine" the small print on the back of the ticket allowed it to be rescheduled for basically any reason with NO refunds. In the end we were glad we missed it since the reenacment is outside of town no where near the battlefield and after seeing the site we could not imagine spending hours in the hot sun. A MUCH better activity is to go on the nonpublicized Park Service reenacment of the charge where you are the participant. Ask at the visitor center. My daughter (11 years old) asked us why we had even considered going to some recreation not on the actual site.

“don't buy tickets in advance if driving long distance”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2006

A word of caution for those who might be driving a long distance to attend the annual reenactment of the battle of Gettysburg - don't buy your tickets ahead of time. My husband, a friend and I spent over $200 on tickets, including grandstand tickets, for the 2003 reenactment, and then scheduled vacations from work and planned a wonderful cross-country trip from Texas to Gettysburgh in order to attend. The tickets said "no refunds" as the event would happen "rain or shine", which was fine with us. However, when we arrived in Gettysburgh we found that due to recent heavy rains the event had, indeed, been cancelled. Plans were in the making to move it to August, but of course we would not be able to make a second trip! When we asked for refunds, we were told we could use our tickets for the August event, but there would be no refunds "as stated on the tickets". The fact that the ticket also said "rain or shine" was apparently not nearly as important as the "no refunds" part. So unless you have $200+ to throw away, just buy tickets at the door.
