“Neat atmosphere and great crab cakes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2014

We passed through Gettysburg on a business trip and found Dobbins House on Trip Advisor. What a great stop. We ate in the Springhill Tavern part with its stone walls, candlelight, and servers in period dress. We split an Adam's Delight appetizer plate which had oranges, apples, grapes pineapple, melon, fruit dip, two small skewers of cheese and two very generous slices of some kind of sweet bread and cream cheese. It was just right for two. We both ordered the crab cake dinner and had two nice-sized cakes, baked potato and salad. We skipped dessert but the gentleman at the table next to us had something with hot fudge that smelled decadent. Our server was professional and very pleasant. The dining room is small and people are packed elbow to elbow at small tables, but no one seemed to mind. We visited a bit with the people on either side and we admired their meals as they did ours. A very nice meal and a place I'd recommend and visit again.

“A Must Visit Restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2014

We enjoyed our meal at Dobbin House, not the least because of the historic building and atmosphere. The dishes tend to be a fusion of pioneer and modern. For example, the grilled salmon dish that I had came with either a baked white or baked sweet potato, not entirely usual for salmon starches, but more pioneer-ish than what you might usually expect to find with salmon. Somehow, the vegetables and starches with my wife's chicken dish were a more natural (and pioneer-ish) fit. The house salads are very good and the wine selection by the bottle or by the glass is pretty good. We ate in the upstairs restaurant (as opposed to the tavern) and found the atmosphere to be pretty good; however, some of the tables and chairs are incredibly tightly packed in. The service was outstanding. That and the building itself made up for some of the quirkiness of the food competitions.

“You MUST visit the Springhouse Tavern in Gettysburg!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2014

If you are going to Gettysburg, stop by the Dobbin House Tavern, but be sure to go downstairs and eat in the Springhouse Tavern. Historical tavern is candle-lit only in the stone walled tavern. Much more ambiance than the Dobbin House dining room itself. The tavern dates back to the 1700s and one can feel the charm of the era with the wait staff dressed in period attire. The sandwiches are wonderful with plenty of unique choices and enough food to fill you up! They also have several dinner options; my favorite being the marinate chicken breast. Best chicken I've ever had and more than enough for me with several sides. Full bar and specials also available. You may have a bit of a wait during peak times for lunch or dinner (we were told an hour, but were seated within 30 minutes), but it is well worth it.
