We just returned from our getaway weekend in Gettysburg. This was our 2nd time staying at the Herr Tavern and we love it. We booked the Lodge room, especially for the couch in front of the fireplace. Chilled champagne, cheese, crackers and fruit welcomed us to our room. We had dinner in the Tavern and the food and service was A++. The filet mignon was absolutely amazing, slicing like butter. It is clear the chef has a high regard for quality food, as everything we ate was delicious. Breakfast comes with the room and was also wonderful. Stuffed french toast one morning, and crepes the next. Served up with homemade Cinnamon buns, fruit, cranberry muffins, and home made yogurt. The fireplace in the dinning room was lit both at dinner and breakfast. If your partner likes history, the battlefield is a great way to spend the day. We've enjoyed the battlefield many times, so we hiked 8 miles on the AT near Chimney Rocks. Don't be looking for too much excitement in the town itself. We found town to be oddly empty this time of year (albeit pretty). More reason to just head back to our cozy room and relax after our awesome day hiking. The nicest thing about going to the Tavern in December was that we had the place to ourselves.

We had a wonderful experience at this Inn. We spent a weekend here to celebrate my partner's birthday. We had the Lodge room which was spacious and clean. Upon our arrival, we found chilled champagne, cheese, fruit and crackers in our room. The employees were helpful and friendly. The breakfast were gourmet and filling. They have a restaurant and pub. We came home each night and had a few beers at the pub which is in the old barn. It is situated right off the battlefield. We cannot wait to return!

My husband and I stayed here for our 18th wedding anniversary. We stayed in the loft room #5. We loved the privacy and the uniqueness of the room. The staff was friendly, accomodating and they couldn't do enough for us from the moment we arrived.

Saturday I received a massage in their spa room and it was heavenly.

The room was clean. The food was exceptional and we liked the idea of having our own table at breakfast and not having to sit with the other guests.

We look forward to the next time we can stay here, and highly, highly recommend it to anyone.

Last weekend we had over 60 friends and relatives attend a Friday evening reception dinner for our son's wedding. The food was very, very good and the service and friendliness of the staff was exceptional. Coming from the Philadelphia /S. Jersey region, we were delighted to find such a place in a relatively small and tourist oriented area. We highly recommend it to anyone looking to hold dinner banquet.

My husband and I stayed here one night with his parents after enjoying a day at Gettysburg. They were impressed - and so were we!

THE ROOMS. We had two rooms in the "Annex" and not the main house, which really worked out nicely. The annex was a house next door and it was pretty cool that we had the two bedrooms upstairs. Somehow, we felt like we had rented a home together. The rooms each had a queen bed with Victorian decor and a balcony (and a fireplace). Very luxurious with spa robes, slippers, cheese/crackers, etc. We also received a complimentary bottle of champagne (not sure if that's standard, but it was quite nice to sip a glass on the balcony before dinner!)

THE FOOD. We dined in the inn's restaurant and it was just perfect. Elegant live piano music in the main room and we had a table in one of the side rooms. I had the venison chops and they were really fantastic. My husband had the prime rib medallions - good, but way too much food and I wouldn't say it was exceptional. The strawberry rhubarb crisp was also way too big. Tasty, but I didn't care for the golden raisins in the rum raisin ice cream, though (not their fault, obviously this is a preference). The wine list here was also excellent. They rolled out the red carpet for the complimentary breakfast the next day. Fresh squeezed oj, a huge table of cereals/muffins/etc, PLUS creme brulee french toast with apples and bacon (quite a gourmet twist on a typical breakfast fave - not sure my in-laws quite knew what to make of it!).

SERVICE. Excellent. This reminded me of a classic old-school inn - the type where it's quiet when you walk in the lobby or go to dinner. Everyone wanted to ensure we had a pleasant stay.

LOCATION. It's about 2 miles outside Gettysburg, but that was fine for us.

In all honesty, we stayed here because pretty much every other hotel/inn in Gettysburg was booked the weekend we wanted to go. We really enjoyed our visit and I would recommend the place highly. It's just a little pricey if you're not spending a great deal of time enjoying the room and the inn. We really only needed a place to sleep for the night and it was $250/night per room.
