Stayed at the Eisenhower for a convention. Our first room had a strong odor of what I called cleaning solvent. We stayed the first night expecting the odor to dissipate but the next day proved no relief from the solvent like odor, we requested another room. The receptionist at the desk, Aliza <sp> was VERY accommodating in relocating us to another room nearby THANK YOU!! The second room was clear of any solvent odor but we still noticed the solvent like odor in the hallway. The air conditioner was quieter but marginally maintained the room at a cool temperature. Our room was a good size, so we didn't have a cramped feeling. Bathroom was large and there was an additional "powder room" adjoining the bathroom. We were in the original area of the Eisenhower so it was dated in its overall appearance but it was OK.

WA3UFN,

Thank you for commenting on Trip Advisor. We do appreciate any feedback as it will assist us in addressing issues that we can improve on. As I am not familiar with the actual location of your initial sleeping room, I am not aware of any particular incident that may have resulted in a special clean up. If that area had just been cleaned, the odor of the cleaning solutions may still have been very strong. We are pleased that our front desk attendant was able to relocate you to another room and that you were happy with these accommodations. We would like to thank you for staying with us and we would be grateful to host another visit from you in the future. Thank you.

My family and I decided to tack on a day in Gettysburg at the end of our Pennsylvania vacation, and I was pleased to get a room at the Eisenhower for less than $100. We were even more surprised - pleasantly - to find that our room was actually a large suite. However, I was a bit concerned that the hotel was practically deserted when we checked in (I heard later that they had been busy for the weekend, but it was still the weekend when we arrived - and I've stayed at enough hotels and conference centers to expect steady business even when there are no conferences underway).

In reading the responses posted by the hotel staff on this website, they are quick to acknowledge that they are an older facility. However, you can have an older facility without it LOOKING like an older facility. The carpet in Eisenhower I was faded; several of the oddly-placed inside awnings (I guess they're going for a sidewalk shop look?) we're ripped; many of the chandeliers with faux-crystal decorations were missing some of the "crystals"; there was no ice machine on the ground floor of Eisenhower II (and it's a pain to have to go to another floor to get ice when you want/need it); some of the towels in our room had holes in them; the fitted sheets on the bed kept coming off every time I rolled over (and I don't like spending half of the night re-sheeting the bed); the glass walkway between Eisenhower I and II actually appears to be a hastily installed metal walkway with some carpet thrown on it; and there was a section of carpet below the air conditioner in our room that was extremely soaked (and it appeared to have been wet for quite some time).

The location is great, and the size is great (and the kids loved the pool). However, I can't help but wonder how much revenue is actually being reinvested in the property to spruce it up (above and beyond keeping it where it is right now). A few changes will go a long way. We'll be back in Gettysburg many times in the future, and I would be willing to stay again - IF I see that they are willing to take the time to address the little things. After all, it's the little things that add up to a total experience.

First of all, thank you so very much for choosing to stay with us and for writing a review. We are pleased that you found your sleeping room accommodations pleasant. Possibly the weekend that you were here, our large groups hadn’t checked in yet which may have accounted for the deserted feeling and sometimes our larger groups are reserved over in the Eisenhower I section.
You are correct. Despite the fact that we are an “older facility", should not excuse the condition of the areas of the hotel that you pointed out. We have certainly informed our maintenance department of your concerns. As always, we appreciate any type of feedback so that we can address these issues that may have been overlooked.
We are glad that you will be visiting the Gettysburg area again and we would be pleased to be able to accommodate you a second time.
Again, thank you.

We recently attended a 4 day convention at this location. First we were put in a room in the Eisenhower I, which is the original building. There was no fridge in the room, the tub was clogged and the I was afraid to use the hairdryer because it looked like is was from 1970. The room was very outdated, old and smelled. We were moved over to the Eisenhower II, which is a newer building. The room there was the same price as the original room we were given and it had all the usual amenities. The grounds and parking are nice. The pool was not, the water was hot, the pool room was hot and there was a slimey ring around the pool. The banquet and hospitality room were nice. The onsite deli is expensive. If you stay here request to stay in the newer building!

Room Tip: pick a room in the Eisenhower II building.

Wildcat48,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay with us during your convention. Our rooms in the original part of the facility (Eisenhower I) do not have refrigerators, however they can be requested. We do furnish refrigerators and microwaves in the newer (Eisenhower II) part of our facility. I am happy that we were able to accommodate you in the newer section, but apologize for the inconvenience. Typically there is a slight rate increase in the newer section; however in this particular case we were able to honor the same rate.
Our maintenance department has been informed of your experience with the pool and we have addressed this situation. Again, your feedback is very much appreciated as this will help us to improve our guest experience. We hope that you will return to the Eisenhower Hotel if you are in the Gettysburg area again.

I read all the critical reviews below ... and don't understand them.
We paid $62.17 for a fabulous HUGE room. 2 beds, couch, desk, frig, microwave
coffee pot, ironing board. Our room had a tall ceiling and was very clean.
Compared to "cheap" hotels in the area, this was $30 cheaper ... and NICER!

Was the decor from a different era. YES! Building 2 has had grandeur days....
however this resort is delightful. In this economy, EICC is doing the best they
can to keep their doors open at a very very fair price for the vacationing
consumers. No breakfast ... not a big deal. Coffee offered in the room! Mr. Eisenhower
would be proud that they are FAIR. I'm bragging about EICC and hope to lure a
conference there. Gettysburg is just awesome...a must visit for all Americans!

Room Tip: This resort is a short drive from TOWN...

Thank you very much for your review of the Eisenhower Hotel. We appreciate that you chose to stay with us and we are very pleased that you enjoyed your time here. We do recognize that our hotel is not brand new, so we try to price accordingly.
We are also glad that you enjoyed Gettysburg as well. We certainly hope to see you back in the area again. As you may have seen, we have tons of banquet/meeting space and we would be delighted to host your next conference. Again, thank you for your visit and for your feedback.

After reading all the negative reviews we were apprehensive to stay here. We are happy to report the room and the staff met our expectations. Erin was very helpful at checkin and gave us the guidance we needed to pick up the free trolley in the morning. We stayed in the 2nd building in room 414 and immediately were impressed with how spacious the room was. The 2 queen beds were pillow top mattresses and having the fridge and microwave were convenient. We only had a minor cleanliness issue with the base of our toilet and we reported it to the front desk staff and it was taken care of by the time we returned. Overall we were happy with our stay and would stay again. We also were happy that it was a little out of town since it was quieter. It was a good value for the price.

Nothing fancy but do not hesitate to stay here. Great price, very clean and the staff very friendly. Only complaint was that it was about 15 min drive from where everything is happening in gettysburg. Was a little disappointed they didn't have a out door pool.

Room Tip: Not near the pool

I was hoping (against hope) that the low price on this room was simply a function of it being large (i.e. lots of rooms to book), a little remote from town, and old but clean. I gambled and lost! And I learned my lesson (we changed hotels the next night). The carpet had huge stains all over it, the walls were dirty, the pillows were lumpy, the blankets had moth holes, the sidetable's handle was missing, the pull-out couch was dingy and rickety, the TV reception was fuzzy. We put towels on our pillows, closed our eyes and begged for morning to come. Once it did, we were out in a flash. Stay away from this place! Others clearly do---it was a ghost town the night we arrived!

Room Tip: I can't imagine there being a good room in that ghost town of a hotel.

triciaoe,

Thank you for your response on Trip Advisor regarding your stay at the Eisenhower Hotel. We are sorry that your expectations of the hotel were not satisfactory for you. We realize that we are not a brand new constructed facility and we price our accommodations accordingly. We are located a few miles out of town, which for some people, is a selling feature. Again, we do thank you for your review and we hope that you had a great visit to the Gettysburg area.
