“Great Stress release getaway”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

My wife and I stayed here for one night. We stayed in the commanders quarters and purchased the secret service package. What a fantastic, clean and family friendly atmosphere. We were met by the owner soon as we pulled on the property, she helped us in and gave us a tour of the property. We were then greeted with a bottle of sparkling cider, 5 large chocolate dip strawberry's and a dozen roses. The room was immaculate with a large plush bed and a hand hammered copper tube. (which was very nice to soak in). Turn down service included our bed being turned down, one long stem rose on the bed and dessert for two. The morning was greeted by a 4 course (yes I said 4 course) breakfast that was served in our room in front of the fireplace. All these extras were part of the secret service package and included couples massages.

If you are looking for a quick relaxing getaway please check this place out. The owners not only make you feel at home they make you feel like family.

Room Tip: Get the commander quarters

My husband and I stayed here for our 5 year wedding anniversary. What a special, romantic, relaxing weekend! The owner and her family were extremely polite, welcoming, and hospitable in every way possible. The perfect atmosphere for alone time as a couple with a game room, a billiards room, theatre, and indoor pool. Yummy snacks in the guest kitchen and really enjoyed the two-person Jacuzzi tub. It was wonderful to wake to the sounds of nature. Didn't want to leave so we'll have to stay longer next time. Extremely recommended! Have been telling everyone that asks about our trip about how wonderful it was.

Room Tip: We stayed in the cheapest room and it was still very high quality!

The Inn at White Oak was like no other B & B we have stayed in, it was huge, private and beautifully decorated in every corner of the house. When we drove up, the owner’s parents met us at the front step with a warm welcome and smile. Because of a cancellation we got an option to pick another room of course we chose the Commanders Quarters. It was beautiful, quiet, clean and very private. The view from our room was impressive. The breakfast was top notch and my favorite was the warm maple pecan muffin (I’d love to have that recipe.) I can’t say enough good things about this B & B. We will definitely be back soon!
Thank you for the hospitality Colleen & Lou.

Room Tip: Every room looked beautiful!

We only stayed one night, but before we left we booked to stay another night in a few months!

There was a mixup with our room reservation (somehow the room we reserved had been double booked), but the hosts were extremely accomodating and we were offered a stay in a room with the same amenities (we just wanted a 2 person jacuzzi tub) or a gift certificate to use for a future stay, so we stayed in the other room that was available that had a 2 person jacuzzi tub. It was the Lieutenants quarters. It's one of their smaller rooms, but the bed is extremely comfortable and the linens are so cozy! There were even plush robes in the bathroom. There is a skylight in the bathroom, which was nice, and the jacuzzi tub felt amazing. They provided shampoo, conditioner, soap and their own herbal bath grain to make the bathwater smell wonderful. They also provide plenty of towels, which is nice!

When we first arrived we were greeted at the front door by the hosts parents and they were so friendly and welcoming. They gave us a tour of the inn....it's absolutely gorgeous, inside and out. After that we settled into our room and took a swim in the pool. We had the pool to ourselves, so it was even more nice! The pool is in a separate little building just a trail away from the inn and it is heated inside, so it felt great. There are two fireplaces inside the pool area but we did not have them lit. There are doors which open to the outside area and during the warmer months they have the fountain running and lounge chairs outside, so we can't wait to get back during a warmer month. There are lounge chairs around the pool, a cd player to have some music to swim to and lots of towels are provided, there is is also a small changing area with a toilet.

After our swim we went out for dinner to La Bella Itala, which is just outside the town part of Gettysburg. I've been to La Bella a few times before and each time I have a great experience. The side you enter on is a pizza shop looking side, then they have the sit down part of the restaurant which is smaller in size but very beautifully decorated and authentic looking. I always order the same thing there: the combo pasta (stuffed manicotti and stuffed shells) with a side caesar salad. The salad is served in wooden bowls...salad always tastes better in those bowls for some reason...but they have the best caesar salad! They also serve you warm bread that you dip into a mix of herbs and oil...delicious. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp fettucini alfredo and he was pleased. They were not skimpy on the shrimp...they included 7 pieces of large, plump shrimp in his pasta. I love La Bella!

After we dinner we went back to the inn. We watched a movie in the theater room...the seats are very comfortable. They had a selection of historical movies, kid movies, family, thriller etc. We watched Kiss the Girls (a thriller with Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd). Good movie. After dinner we used the jacuzzi tub in our room, then laid in bed and watched tv...Pretty Woman to be exact. There was a flat screen tv in our room with cable, it seemed there were a good amount of channels provided.

The next morning we were up in time for breakfast....the breakfast is wonderful! You have a choice of sitting in the main dining room at the large table or off to the right in the sitting room they set up two tables and call it the "First Ladys Parlor" which is seated right by the window for a nice view...that's where we sat. The breakfast is a 3 course breakfast. You are offered coffee, water, milk, orange juice etc. The first course was a neatly arranged fruit plate. Second course was a warm, homemade Maple Pecan muffin....absolutely delicious! Third course was a 4 cheese egg soufflee (had some cheese on top, dice green peppers, diced red peppers and diced tomatoes), served with sausage links and a biscuit....also very delicious! The breakfast is individually plated and served to you. On the topic of food while there, there is a guest kitchen which you have access to 24 hours. There are drinks (coffee, juice, water, tea) and snacks provided. There were quite a few candy jars with different types of candy (hershey kisses, m & ms, hershey miniatures) and every afternoon the host, Jillian, sets out a homemade dessert on the counter. While we were visiting it was pound cake with slice strawberries on the side...so yummy!

Even though we had that hiccup in the road with our room reservation, everything turned out great and we were very pleased with our stay. We made reservations to go back at the end of May so that we can enjoy the land surrounding the inn! It's such a beautiful place. The hosts, both the owners and the parents of the owners, were all terrific and make you feel at home. You wont be disappointed!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Lieutenants room and it was quite lovely! It is one of their smaller rooms but it i...

We visited this b&b about a year ago, and I still think about it! It was hands down one of the best b&bs we have ever stayed at. The rooms are all AMAZING and the house is great, with tons of amenities, from a theater room, and indoor swimming pool, to some walking paths. Highly recommend- we can't wait to return.

I surprised my wife with a three night stay at this inn for our first anniversary and we now think we will make this inn our annual anniversary tradition. Everything was awesome and my wife said I did really good picking this place! It couldn't have been better. I had requested some packages and the chocolate dipped strawberries were delicious and had a chocolate oak leaf on the platter with a vase of red roses and real rose petals were spread throughout our room and formed a heart which my wife really liked. We had a 60 minute couples massage in the inn's private spa and it was so relaxing. It was very private and quiet and next time we are going to get the 90 minute couples massage! The heated indoor pool was awesome with large rock fireplaces and comfortable lounge chairs. All the food was delicious and the owners were awesome. This place is now going to be our annual tradition.

Room Tip: We stayed in the blue majors room and we really liked it. It was perfect for our first anniversary a...

What else is there to say?! My husband and I had an marvelous at the Inn at White Oak. It was absolutely heavenly in every way. It surpassed even our high expectations after hearing so much about it from friends of ours who have been frequent guests of this Inn. The views from every room in the Inn are incredibly beautiful and the guest rooms are all large and luxurious and the bed was the most comfortable, we slept so well each evening. Breakfasts had us up early in anticipation and the smells were mouth watering. Each course each morning was different and as beautifully presented and they were delicious. We felt so spoiled by the beauty and hospitality around us each day. The private spa made us wish we had booked even more services each day and the heated indoor swimming pool topped off an already marvelous stay. The hospitality is beyond five stars and this experience left us knowing heaven really does exist! We booked before leaving as the word is obviously getting out about this place. We'll be back this Spring!

Room Tip: We stayed in the commanders quarters and it is well worth it! The views are marvelous from every win...
