Review of Gettysburg Diorama

Owner description: See the ENTIRE battlefield at one time and watch the troop movements for ALL three days of battle. The battlefield covers 6,000 acres, an area large enough to be difficult to visualize. The Gettysburg Diorama will put the battle into perspective when you see the ENTIRE battlefield as it appeared in 1863. Carefully researched and meticulously assembled, the Diorama contains over 20,000 hand-painted soldiers, horses, cannons and buildings. Picture the battle through the eyes of Generals Meade and Lee as a narrative unfolds in miniature with a light and sound effects experience you won't forget.

We went here after the reenactments and the drive through the battlefield to give my wife a over all visual on the movements of the troops in the entire area so she could understand how and why the different areas were worth battling over. The price is not bad and they have one heck of a souvenir store.

We saw the diorama the night before we toured the battlegrounds and were so glad we did, because it gave a very nice overview of the battle!! Impressive!

While the narrative for the diorama was very good, the whole thing looks like some elementary kids put it together. Don't waste your time or your money on this.

Diorama takes the place of the old museum battle map, (IMHO). Old map purchased and moved to Hanover, not yet reassembled during my stay. Displays entire battle over the three days, very detailed, fairly accurate. Seating on bleachers not high enough to see every detail during the battle, but it's basically an overview for those newly exploring for the first time. Long enough to give the ideas, short enough to keep the attention of the young, (unless they have been exploring all day, then they may be too tired to attend to the entire program). Nice memorabilia, given time to examine in more detail after the program, typical attached gift shop. Worth the price of admission if you know very little or nothing about the events which occurred many years ago.

360° suround 3D, so you walk around, inside the battlefield. Very lifelike, very realistic. Can take photo's.
