“Awesome Experience”

This is a must-see locale for any visitor to the Gettysburg Military Park. The film and Cyclorama were spectacular and extremely moving. The museum is chock-full of artifacts, and you really should allow yourself a lot of time to do it justice. The museum store is also a treasure trove of memorabilia and relevant reading material.
Even though our visit to Gettysburg occurred during the government shutdown, the Visitor's Center is privately run, so it was not affected, thank goodness!

“Possibly the Best I've Seen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

First, I am assuming that this refers to the National Park Service visitor center. I have visited national parks all over the country and this one, which is relatively new (2008) may be the best I've been to. Be sure sure to buy a combination ticket for the film, the Cyclotron and the museum. Typically, when you do, you will get a ticket for the next available film showing, and from that you go directly to the Cyclotron show. We recommend that, if possible, you request a ticket for a showing that is at least an hour away so that you have tome to see some of the museum first, especially if you don't know much about the significance of the battle. In particular, in the museum, go at least to the three films that present the three days of the battle. Doing so will give you a little background that will make the film and Cyclotron even more meaningful. You can return later to see the rest of the museum exhibits.

The Cyclotron itself, both as a painting and a show about the battle, was the highlight for us. It really helps to understand what happened where, so see it before you tour the park.

The visitor center also has an outstanding book and gift store, and your purchases there help improve and protect the park. There also are some free exhibits. You can spend hours here if you wish. We suggest allowing at least 2 hours just for the museum.

“Visitor's center”

Very helpful. Took a guide in our car and found that to be "the only way to go". Enjoyed Cyclorama. Wish we had done that BEFORE we went on the tour of the battlefields.

“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

We did everything. We saw the diorama, the movie and museum. They are all well done and worth the price of admission. We also took the bus tour which was worth doing but the serious history buff my want a private guide tour. Doing a tour is not an excuse to not get out and walk parts of the battlefield and relive the events.

“Need for then a few hours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2013

I was told that the old visitors center was better and that there were much fewer artifacts on exhibit. If true they will make up in quality what may have been lost in volume. Great experience, extremely well done. Leave plenty of time. Really the right place to start to appreciate Gettysburg.
