If you had on a limited idea of what Gettysburg was all about this is the place to start to try to understand the carnage which occurred in 1863.

The Gettysburg and Visitor Center was a great place to stop; the price was reasonable, the staff was very educated and willing to educate the visitors and there is so much to see and learn!

You need to begin your visit to the Gettysburg battlefield here. This battle was enormous and covered a huge area, so if you come in unprepared, the experience can become confusing. The movie is an excellent overview to the battle and why it occurred. The Cylcorama, a huge cylindrical painting, is beautiful. You actually stand inside the painting so you see it from a 360 degree standpoint. The museum is big with a lot of exhibits. Be forewarned though...it is something that kids may tire of after a few rooms.
We did the car tour to see the battlefield. It's 24 miles long and takes you to all the key parts of the battle. You can pull over and get out at each of the spots. We saw people walking the battlefield which seems to be a difficult and time-consuming way to do it. Be careful whe you drive...a lot of roads are one way with parking spots directly on the road. If you're not paying attention, you can potentially hit parked cars.

This is such a clean, cool place to go visit, but the busses full of people left us wanting to go back outside. The workers seemed flustered and you couldn't get a good look at anything on the weekend. Next time we will visit during the week.
