It was an incredible depiction of the events of the civil war. I'm not very good at history... but understand SO much more from this experience. Brand new (2008) visitor center with the cyclorama. The only thing I didn't like was not given enough time to really look at the artwork in the cyclorama.

I've been to the Cyclormama a couple of times and it never ceases to amaze me. What a beautiful painting. It definitely gets you in the battlefield mood for starters - and it also helps you understand the war if your a newbie to it!

Despite having visited Gettysburg many times throughout the years, this was my first visit to the visitors center since they redid it. All I can say is wow!! I thought I was at the wrong place at first. Not that the old building was horrible but this new center is a huge upgrade from the old one. My husband and I arrived shortly after 8 and luckily missed a lot of the Saturday crowd. We didn’t get to see the Cyclorama or the museum but did get in line to get tickets to the Eisenhower National Historic Site. The line moved fairly quickly though the woman who checked us out wasn’t very friendly. Maybe she just isn’t a morning person.

We also spent some time in the Museum Book Store. While it is called a “book store” it is really more of a book store/souvenir shop. There were a lot of your typical souvenirs and a great variety of books, as well as some more random and out of place items. I have to recommend the fudge stand. Ask for some free samples because it is some mighty good fudge!

Regardless of what your plans are for the day, you should make the visitor's center your first stop!
