We stumbled upon this FREE museum exploring downtown Gettysburg and "Wow!" what a find! I would compare this museum to the American History Museum in DC without exaggeration. Though the building is on the small side, the thousands of artifacts and memorabilia are organized for easy viewing room to room. Some of the artifacts include civil war pieces, a vast variety of presidential memorabilia and signatures, WWII pieces, Elvis pieces, etc. Because this is a private museum, some of the pieces are for sale. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable.

Nice museum. Not just the Civil War. Has rooms from JFK, Elvis, WW2. Claim to fame is it was featured on American Pickers. Will be starting a web site soon.

By far this Museum is incredible for the summary of the Civil War. They explain the "before the battle" and "during the battle" so well that I can honestly say its one of the best ones in the U.S. for that time period.

Definitely do the audio tour. Driving the battlefield without the audio is just a waste of time!

Because the museum is not located in a large expansive building, and it's free, you might assume it's not worth visiting. You'd be wrong! I enjoyed visiting here as much as any in Gettysburg. The exhibits are so varied - Civil War, WWI, WWII, Kennedy Assassination and popular celebrity memorabilia. Any museum that houses Hitler's hairbrush, Ava Braun's nighty and Lincoln's wallet is worth a stop.

We really enjoyed the movie that gave the reasons and the many facts surrounding the Battle of Gettysburg. We also saw the cyclorama which is a 360 degree painting of the battle. Well worth the price of admission.
