Owner description: The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".

Please spend the extra money (it's $24.00) to get the Nat'l Park's CD driving Tour - (not the abbreviated one). It has very easy to follow driving instruction w/numbered sites for navigating through the park. It is very thorough and has engaging historial information. It's a must-have while visting the Park!

Very large area that is well maintained and well marked. The work to keep/return the field to how it was in 1863 is impressive. Also glad they are being environmentally responsible while doing so. Very impressed.

Too bad the NPS gave the presentation over to the private sector. The private enterprise does a good job, and the battlefield is kept in excellent condition, but they charge high prices for everything. It appears to me that they take advantage of the Eisenhower farm's desire not to have parking onsite and charge a high price for the 10 minute drive to the farm.
Take advantage of the various CD - guided tours that are available online or in the bookstore if you don't want to opt for the private, licensed guides ... which are proported to be excellent. There is a bus tour of the battlefield with a licensed guide on board.

The venue is super easy to find, and full of Civil War information. The national park people there are helpful in pointing out interesting area information, as well as Civil War facts.
