“An enjoyable experience at Raphael Inn”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

We stayed at the Raphael Inn during the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. The owners Alexandra and George are such nice people. They spend time with their guests and make sure their guests receive the information they need to have the best time possible in Gettysburg. They actually walked with us down to the train station to see Lincoln's arrival to Gettysburg the night before his address, and then walked us to a restaurant they recommended; the restaurant turned out to be wonderful. They kindly packed us a to-go-breakfast on the morning of November 19 so we could get to the Dedication Day Ceremony ahead of the crowd. We have been to a number of bed & breakfast's, but we have never felt as welcomed as we did at the Raphael Inn.

Our stay for 2 nights at the Raphael Inn to celebrate our 60th Wedding Anniversary was beyond expectations ! George and Alexandra went above and beyond to plan this with our daughter as a surprise. The atmosphere & details to ensure comfort, pleasant decore & gourmet breakfasts, plus arrangements for 2 special tours in Gettysburg made Raphael Inn and our hosts a 5 STAR MEMORY ! Delightfully, Gene & Marilyn Riecke

My husband and I stayed here for the second time a few months back. Sorry to the owners for not being prompt with my review. I love Alex and George! They are very kind souls and treat everyone like long lost relatives. I like how personable they are, how clean the rooms are, and how they cater to your every need. They remembered me and my husband (who is from Holland), which meant a lot to me considering how many folks come and stay here! The dogs are adorable and Alex is a wonderful cook. She worked with my dietary needs and George packed me a nice low calorie treat when we departed. I can't wait to go back and stay there again, or drive up just to say hello to them, because they are worth the travel. -- J&W

We stayed at the Raphael Inn in during the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. The owners, Alexandra and George, could not do enough to make us feel at home. The rooms were lovely, ours had a bedroom and a TV room. Each room has a theme. Snacks and beverages were available 24/7. The breakfasts were to die for. My husband usually does not like B&Bs. He loved this one!

Raphael was one of the nicest places we ever stayed. Everything about it was excellent - the rooms, the breakfasts and George and Alexandra were among the nicest people we have ever met. It was our anniversary weekend trip and they surprised us with a small heart-shaped birthday cake and even sang "Happy Anniversary" to us. They also made a card with a very thoughtful message. They took pictures of us and e-mailed them to us. We never stayed anywhere where the owners were so thoughtful. We will return.

Room Tip: If you are staying more than a couple nights, you might want to choose one of the two larger rooms...

This was our second stay at the Raphael Inn and we would definitely stay here again. George and Alexandra are wonderful hosts. They recommended an outstanding battlefield guide to us and when I came down with a cold, George gave me vicks vapo rub - now that's service! The Abraham Lincoln Room was cozy and comfortable. Alexandra's breakfasts are always something to look forward to. If they don't know the answer to your questions they will find someone who can. In reference to another review - if you don't like dogs, then maybe this is not the place for you. Heidi and Olive are the stars of the show but we never found them annoying.

The good is the well intentioned owners, the information they have on what to see, where to go and not go to eat, and the very good breakfasts with creative presentations, plus being a very short walk to downtown. The less good is that it can be a bit much. There are two very friendly dogs who have ongoing friendly conflicts over various toys but it does get to be a bit much. The owners are friendly and well intentioned but also get to be a bit much, learning more than I wanted to know them. The rooms are clean and comfortable but the front room was fit into an older home which presented a challenge for a traditional bath and restroom layout. We had a great time in Gettysburg enhanced by many of the recommendations they gave us but I don't know if I would return.

Room Tip: the back rooms seemed to have a better layout but they are queen beds
