“nice space to relax in”
Reviewed April 26, 2012

Our stay was very relaxing even if we could hear all the traffic on the busy road. The room itself was pretty well appointed, even if the microwave (as promised in the description) was stored in the bathroom closet.

The back sitting room was nice for my husband who wanted to watch TV, while I sat in the front room reading.

The breakfast was outstanding. I should have asked for the applesauce bread recipe.

Room Tip: we liked the overlook suite 2 - lots of room to spread out and no noise except for traffic be caref...

We spent one night in the Overlook 1 Suite. We were surprised with the good quality and value, considering this is a tourist town. The bed was comfortable, the linens were nice, good towels, everything clean as a whistle. No problems there. The walls are thin as this is an old house and you CAN hear your neighbors. The breakfast in the Dobbin House was really good and in such a fine period atmosphere.
However..........and this is probably picky but I will say it: their website clearly advertises that well-mannered children 5 years and older are welcome. In other words, small children need not inquire. This is the MAIN REASON we booked this b&b. But as luck would have it, 5 minutes into the fine breakfast, in walked a couple with a toddler. And right on cue, the child started screaming. Picture a screaming toddler in a small antique room..not pleasant. (FYI, the only people having breakfast are the b&B guests, otherwise breakfast is not open to the public) The Gettystown Inn is not desperate for customers. When we booked the day before, they only one room left. ( late Feb )So, please, Dobbin House/Gettystown Inn, stand by your website . When people inquire about a room, ASK if there are children and then politely tell them your policy.

My family and I stayed in the Meade Suite of the Gettystown Inn. We had a wonderful time! The inn had a kitchenette and shared a parking lot with the Dobbin House Tavern. It was a wonderful colonial tavern where we ate breakfast in a wonderful colonial setting. It was a relaxing and wonderful getaway.

I had done alot of research on the Dobbin House and my husband, son and I decided on
Aunt Holly's Room. It was 2 stories with a fold out sofa downstairs and a queen and bath
upstairs. While we enjoyed the old and quaint rooms, the sofabed our son slept in was
not at all good. My recommendation would be for 2 not 3 people. The breakfast was very
nice and especially since it was in the Dobbin house. We were able to see the under-
ground railroad and enjoyed the quaint rooms. We had a nice time, but the sofabed needs
to be replaced. Location is great for shopping and dining and alot of historical buildings
near by.

Room Tip: You might want to choose a room with a daybed not a sofabed.

One night stay in the Reynolds Room. Rooms were clean and had such a great "step back in time" feel from the furnishings. Bed was comfy although I really prefer a king over a queen anyday! Little TV with lots of channels (more than the Hyatt we stayed in a few nights prior). Small fridge, AC and a neat little snack basket that had UTZ cheese & crackers, Smartfood popcorn, UTZ peanuts and UTZ pretzels. Speaking of UTZ, zip over to Hanover PA and take the free factory tour, it was cool! You do need to check in at the gift shop in a separate building (Dobbin House) next door. The ladies were very nice, one took us over to our room and made sure we were happyl. Later in the night they went out of their way to allow me to print our boarding passes. THANK YOU! Breakfast was in the very historic Dobbin Inn and it was very good. One neat thing is the large front porch, great place to sit out and people watch on the busy street out front. Room was also very quiet, we slept with AC on and that drowned out any street noise and never heard anyone else in the building.

My husband and I stayed in the Meade room for two nights to celebrate our anniversary. The room was comfortable and a nice size. There was a bed/sitting room, and a door separating it from the kitchen area and the bathroom. The kitchen area had a mini fridge and microwave, but also surprisingly had silverware and dinnerware. I loved the rocking chairs on our private porch. The parking was very convenient, right in front of our room! The complimentary breakfasts were AMAZING! First of all, breakfast is served in the Dobbin House Restaurant, which is in the 250+ year-old building next to the bed and breakfast itself, and I loved being able to eat in the wonderful atmosphere. Also, freshly baked breads and muffins, eggs, sausage and biscuits, hashbrown potatoes, ham, fruit, etc...and the service was friendly and helpful. The Bed and Breakfast is in a super convenient location in town. We walked to all the stores, little museums, and shops leading up to the main square. It is also very close to the National Cemetery and the Jennie Wade house/museum.

I would definitely recommend this bed & breakfast to people visiting Gettysburg who want an authentic experience from the Civil war era!

Room Tip: Loved having a private porch--we were in the Meade Room, and the Lee Room next door also had a priva...

I had the opportunity to stay here for four nights recently and found it to be a very pleasant stay. The rooms are a bit small and maybe not as nice as some of the other B and B's in the area but the prices were in line with the service and quality. One big plus is parking is assigned for each unit which in the little town of Gettysburg is a big deal. Also quite convenient to the tourist shops and restuarants in the southeast side of town. Also very quiet at night. All in all I enjoyed the location and it was a good experience.
