“Overlook Points”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

Effigy Mounds National Monument is in fact quite the hike, we did it on 11-2 and we were glad we had a bottle of water along. The mounds themselves are difficult to make out, spreading lime like they use to make the lines on foot ball field may have helped. the most impressive one we saw was the Big Bear.
However the two overlook points; Eagle Nest and Fire Rock, over look the Mississippi River with a view that is worth the hike.

Please take the time to watch the 15 minute video at the visitor center it will help you understand and appreciate the effigy mounds.

“Friendly and informative”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

On a trip out west to the national parks, we stopped by Effigy Mounds. The visitor center was friendly and informative about the culture of the Indian mounds. There's not much to see besides that - there is a trail that passes by some of the mounds. It's a good place to visit if you happen to be passing by.

“Never Understood what Indian Mounds really were.”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

Hard to imagine that these could have been build Hundreds of years ago with very primative equipment. Also learned a lot from the exhipbit and tour about how mounds were constructed and how many remains are in eaach one. VEry impressive site that should be seen and preserved.

“History at it's best.”

You do have to be prepared to walk and bring bug spray. If you like Indian history this is a must see.

“Quiet”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

Even though a major road is nearby, the grounds are amazingly quiet. They have great events like Hawk Watch and Indian pow wows, and the mounds are really something to see up close.
