I have to admit, as someone who grew up going to The Turtle Back Zoo, that I have a soft spot for this place. The great news is that the zoo has only improved since my childhood days while still retaining those markers, such as the train ride through the woods, that people my age yearn for. This zoo has everything: location, size, a newly-built Merry-Go-Round, and a Reptile House that allows close-ups of some really cool occupants. And don't even get me started on the Petting Zoo just up the hill! Really, save your money as there is no need to schlep to Central Park: the Turtle Back Zoo has everything you need, from free-roaming peacocks to prairie dog habitats that allow you to get in on the fun; even the food is better than anticipated. Your kids will want to buy a bird seed stick for the Budgies, and you'll gawk at the eagle you get to see at such close range. Just don't forget the train ride!
