“Great Weekend in Philadelphia!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014

This hotel is beautiful, and the photos online don't do it justice. We were greeted warmly at 12:30 a.m. and given a great room with a park view. Quick check in, which was appreciated since we were exhausted. As members of Leading Hotels of the World (worth the membership!!!), we received a complimentary continental breakfast, which was filling and delicious. I still think about the pastries. Of course we tipped for the great service at breakfast, but we were upset to see that a tip was added to our hotel invoice for breakfast as well. The cash tip that we gave was larger than the tip that the hotel added, which meant that our server received $20 each morning for our continental breakfast, which is excessive. Upon check-out, we were told that the hotel would remove the tip from our bill, but they never did. The rooms are luxurious, and after a long day of sight-seeing, we relaxed in the bathtub and lounged around in the comfy robes. The hotel provided great directions to points of interest, and we dined in the steakhouse next door to the restaurant, which was quite good. (Too bad there wasn't room in the hotel fridge for our leftovers. We ended up having to purchase a cooler with ice, which tells you how great the food was!!!!) The day after our return, I noticed there there was an additional charge of $115 on my credit card. I called the hotel and was told that this was for mini bar charges. We didn't eat anything from the mini-bar, so that was frustrating. However, upon being sent a revised invoice, I couldn't stop laughing because of the amount of items that we allegedly consumed from the mini-bar. Sodas, water, half a bottle of wine, popcorn, pretzels and just about every candy bar you can imagine. In short, way too much for two people to eat in one day and survive. The charge was removed, but I thought that a five-star hotel would think to call a guest and ask about such an excessive consumption of food before automatically charging a card. Although there were a few hiccups, we would definitely stay here again. Beautiful rooms and location, friendly staff, very relaxing experience, which is what we were looking for. Is this a five-star hotel? Can't say for sure, but we will be back!!!!

Thank you for your helpful feedback. Certainly, the gratuity should only be posted once and those that are included must be highlighted. On the mini bar issue, we need to take better notice if the in room refrigerator has been emptied in order to accommodate other items. Please know that we have extra refrigerators available on request so you do not have to bother with a cooler or empty the existing refrigerator.

Please contact me directly so we can make any necessary adjustments after the fact and thank you for joining us at The Rittenhouse. We hope to see you again sometime soon.

We stayed here for 2 nights over the 4th of July weekend. We received an excellent room rate which included valet parking. Internet access was complimentary. The water pressure in the shower was super. The hallways were quiet. The valet and front desk staff were friendly and helped make the stay very pleasant. One minor disappointment was the bed pillows. They were flat as pancakes! I usually sleep with 1 pillow at home and I required 3 here.

Room Tip: All the rooms are large. You should be satisfied, even with a standard room.

Elegant, classic, clean rooms. Helpful and friendly staff. In the heart of Philadelphia within close distance to every attraction. Staff was always helpful and friendly whether it was for a restaurant reservation, advanced order of a taxi, recommendations on nightlife. Highly recommended

Every time I stay at this hotel, I wish I could spend more time there. It is a wonderful place, with a nice quiet space off from the lobby for reading and relaxing. NIce courtyard in the back. Minutes away from whatever you want to do in Philly, with a lot of things in walking distance. The service is outstanding from the time you drive up to the hotel until you check out. I was made to feel as if I was the only guest in the hotel. Highly recommend it!

Room Tip: I had a large room with a king-sized bed, large bath with separate tub and shower. It was a corner...

We spend 4th of July in Philadelphia and had chosen The Rittenhouse because of the many positive comments. We stayed in a city viewing king size room, very spacious, perfect bed, nice bathroom, all very clean and well kept (and even had a view on the fireworks from our window!). Highly attentive staff and great location very central at Rittenhouse Square. We were extremely pleased with our stay and will be back.

Stayed this weekend and found the hotel to be as others have noted, very good indeed. I stayed in a park view room. Comfortable bed, spacious room (even without the separate living room that the larger suites have), nice bathroom, very attentive staff, nice decor, very good restaurant, and good location. From the doormen to the restaurant staff, everyone was eager to please without over doing it. I wish the spa was open but I knew that when I booked the room. Will give me reason to return.

Room Tip: Choose a park view

Green Features: Was pleased with the hotel's green practices, energy efficient lighting, towel reuse (my choice), organic purchases in the restaurant.
