“Great location -close to attractions and museums”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

We stayed at this hotel to get ready for a half marathon on the following day. It's located close to lots of decent restaurants, museums, and other attractions. The elevators are extremely slow. We found the AC in the bedroom to run all night really loud. The curtain was broken at the end of the rod and it leaked considerable light in the room from the street. Other than those two things the room was large, clean, and suitable for our purposes. The hotel was gracious to have a late check out for all runners which was greatly appreciated.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor so you can get a good view of the city at night. It's worth the extra whate...

We enjoyed our stay at this Embassy Suites. The spacious rooms are spokes around a central elevator space. The linens and beds are excellent! From 5:30 - 7:30 complimentary snacks and free drinks of almost any kind are served. The snacks varied from day to day. Breakfast was a pretty good buffet with an omelet station at the attached TGI Friday's. The hotel is a bus ride away from the historical area and within walking distance to the Academy of Natural Sciences, Franklin Institute (science center) and wonderful art galleries including the fabulous Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Room Tip: All rooms have a big-city view.

Perfect location to enjoy the museum area. Ask for the fitness map if you want a nice walk or run. Lots to do in the area. Convenient to the train from the airport. Large comfortable suite with an outdoor balcony (nice view and fresh air!) but not a typical Embassy. The layout is a bit confusing, especially relative to the breakfast area which was really crowded on Saturday morning. Didn't have time for the manager's reception and the breakfast was too crowded to sit down. Not sure I would stay here again. It would depend on price.

Room Tip: Was told higher rooms were quieter but was worried about elevator comments. Front desk said they im...

The suites were spacious enough for a family of 4 & each has a sweet little balcony with views of the city. We could have easily fit another person on an air mattress without feeling cluttered. The hotel was clean and overall a good choice in City Center, within walking distance of quite a lot and right next to public transportation. If you cannot stand the noise from other guests and kids running up and down hallways, this is a GREAT choice because there ARE no hallways. Each floor has about 10 rooms around a central elevator lobby. Don't hink I ever heard another guest.

Staff was friendly and tried to address our problems quickly. The first night we were in a room with only a king bed in the bedroom, though we had a reservation for 2 beds and a sofa sleeper. They were able to correct it for the following day. (But they did not call to tell us were were being moved, and were a little snarkyy that we were not packed for them to move our things. Ummm, we are here on vacation-we have things planned...)

Unfortunately, staff has to use the same elevators as the guests to get around, so sometimes that slowed things down a bit. It took 45 minutes to get an extra blanket and pillow. My advice? Check the room when you first check in to make sure you have enough towels and blankets. Then call and get them delivered before bedtime. We had 2 different rooms and neither had a blanket for the pull-out sofa.

Good things: Coffee in the room (but only enough cream for one cup) Refrigerator and microwave in room, extra sink in bar area.

Cons; No vending machines, so bring drinks/snacks with you. They have a litte shop downstairs but it was about $3 for a soda. Yikes! One ice machine for whole building (but you DO have a fridge.)
Actually the biggest problem we ran into was that there are 2 washers and 2 dryers for a 25-story building and at least one was usually broken. Their reason was that they contract without an outside service company. Oh, and bring your own laundry detergent. The shop downstairs is REALLY expensive. ,

Now to address some of the issues usually cited in the reviews:

1. The breakfast buffet has a decent selection -you can eat something different for about 3-4 days before you will have to repeat. It is poorly laid out because they actually use TGI Friday's, so your are squeezing into the staff area to get your food. If free breakfast is a deal breaker for you (It was for us; It saved us about $250 for 6 days and all we had to do was put on shoes to eat.) this is the place for you. If not, the Windsor is 1/2 a block away and offers suite accommodations for about the same price.

2. Free internet: Despite the claim that they only have free internet in the lobby, once we got the sign-in code, it worked just fine in the room. Not really sure what that is all about.

3. Parking: If you do not mind walking about 3 blocks , Gateway Garage, run by the city, is a STEAL $5 a day for Fri. night, Sat. and Sun. Max of $18 a day for weekdays; less if you take the car and go for the entire day, as it is hourly. I am a small female and felt safe walking back alone even at midnight, but I am pretty tolerant of city environments. Definitely no problem if you are with someone. The hotel would have charged us $240 (plus tip) for Valet parking. I paid $68 for almost a week.

4. Public Transportation: This was a pleasant surprise. Of course you have the regular bus and subway, and if you do not mind walking, there are a ton of things to do withing about 1.5 miles. Best kept secret? The Philly Phlash caters to tourists-hitting many of the tourist spots. $2 a person per ride OR get a family pass (good for up to 5 people) for $15 for the whole day. Other discounts available at the visitor's center for most attractions. There is a stop right in front of the hotel.

4. Elevators: Sometimes slow, especially during check-in, check-out, and breakfast times. As previously stated, staff has to use the same elevators, so be prepared to ride with a cleaning cart for a few floors, but usually the wait was not too terrible. However, if one of the elevators breaks down, wait times go up significantly. If you are physically able, sometimes it is faster to walk especially going down.

Room Tip: All the rooms are pretty much the same. higher rooms have better views of the city. Bring a copy o...

Hotel was very nice and centrally located within easy walking distance to the Convention Center and to other sites in the area. The suites were very spacious, comfortable and clean. The staff at the desk were very attentive and helpful.

Each morning there is a free breakfast buffet at Friday's located in/adjacent to the 2nd floor. There is also a happy hour each evening in the lobby where free drinks and chips are served.

What I didn't like is the tendency of these hotels to gouge on the internet connection. I would think at 250 dollars a night that the wifi would be free.

Booked this apartment through Priceline, great friendly warm welcome, spacious apartment spotlessly clean, comfortable bed & pillows, lovely view, all staff were excellent, friendly & helpful, great location, free cooked to order breakfast in the attached TGI Fridays, free drinks between 5.30-7.30 in bar each evening. The best hotel we stayed in during a 3 week tour of the USA

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view - ours was to the 'Rocky' steps on the Philadelphia Musuem of Art

Use Hotwire to find a room for weekend to be closer to work. Never stay at hotel before. I just love it. Close to everything in center city. A couple of restaurant to choice from close by. The cocktail hour was nice. Everyone at hotel was friendly. I stay on 8 floor and has view of city.
