“Well located Colonial-era B&B”
Reviewed July 2, 2014 via mobile

This B&B is in an excellent location for dining and tourism in the Colonial heart of Center City Philadelphia. Rooms are quite small, but comfortable, and there wasn't any noise overnight. Staff (Anthony and Chrissy) were outstanding--friendly and very helpful. In the morning, a very satisfactory array of continental breakfast items were laid out--fruit, yogurt, muffins, cereals, hard boiled eggs, coffee and tea. Chrissy offered a single cooked item each morning; one day it was an egg dish, another it was french toast. There's a spacious sitting area on the main floor, and guests socialized in the afternoon over inn-provided wine and cheese. It was an easy walk to, e.g., the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall area, the US Mint, as well as the waterfront area. And there were tons of great restaurants within a few block radius. We had a great time. The price/value was right, and the staff made us feel at home.

Location was the high point here as well as the staff which were very friendly and inviting. The breakfast was very nice as well and was prepared very quickly upon request. The accommodations we opted for where on the small side, but given this is a colonial building it is what it is.

We usually stay at 4 stars all over Philly by bidding on Priceline but decided to try a Philadelphia B & B this time. We came across thus establishment via Trip Advisor and am sorry we didn't find it sooner. It is an awesome location within Old City near tons of great restaurants. Chrisey was wonderful and super attentive. The breakfast was great and the complimentary wine at 530 topped off a great day and sets you up for dinner. If you enjoy staying in historic places, this is the best experience and value. We will be back!

Room Tip: Remember there is no elevator so try and stay on one of the lower floors.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I so enjoyed meeting you and your wife. Distracting you while you tried to work was informative and entertaining, and your mission for free parking was quite impressive. Next time you decide to skip Priceline on your trip into the City, please give me a call. We have a great room on the 2nd floor that I know you will love.

The Innkeeper Chrissy was great, she made you feel right at home, she was very pleasant, and knowledgeable about the area, if she didn't know the answer she was willing to find it for us; she was a great baker too. The room was pleasant, clean, and the bathroom had good water pressure. In the evenings their was wine out before we went for dinner, and when we walk back in after dinner the place smelt great from Chrissy's baking. Breakfast was also very good, with homemade baked goods & granola, and more.

The location was great right in the Old City, very close to lots of restaurants, and sites. It was right down the street from Christ Church, Fireman's Hall, Elfreth's Alley, and a short walk to the River front (Penn's Landing), also close to Independence National Historical Park. Parking deck was right next door. We had a very nice time, and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: A little winded by the time I got to our 4th floor room, maybe next time I would pick 2nd or 3rd. LO...

Heading south to DC on a history tour, the Thomas Bond house near Independence Hall in Philadelphia seemed a good choice. And it was! Start with Parking garage right next door at a reasonable price $19. I left my wife with bags on the sidewalk. By the time I got back to the house, our bags had been carried up to the second floor room and were waiting for us there! No elevators, of course, but it is fascinating to see how a modern architect can squeeze in a modern bathroom while retaining the feeling of an 18th century bedroom. We me our daughter nearby for an excellent dinner--lots of choices nearby at every price point. Our hostess was charming in the morning when we came down for a delicious breakfast in the dining room. Lots of choices. Good place to stay.

What a fantastic place! After talking to several locals, I have discovered that this is a hidden secret--nobody seems to know what or where it is. A historical monument in the old downtown, this is the 1797 home of Dr. Thomas Bond, who co-founded the nation's first hospital with Benjamin Franklin. Now it is privately owned and operated as a bed and breakfast by some of the nicest people ever. The stay was very pleasurable and all needs were met. The old-style home guarantees that you will climb the narrow staircase with all your luggage (I walked up to the 4th floor) so if you are weak in body you might reconsider. There is no AC but it was cool enough when I went and they have circulating air. The decor was quaint and the living room/kitchen is a great place to browse and read. Nice breakfast spread in the morning and fun to hobnob with other guests, many of whom were at my same conference. Great place if you want to be in the middle of history and enjoy a personable experience!

We stayed here for 5 nights early May on our first visit to see the sights of Philadelphia. Located just 3 blocks east of Independence Hall, we found this B&B most convenient and surrounded by many restaurants, bars and historical sights in a very safe area to walk around. The rooms were small, as to be expected in an historic building, clean with modern bathrooms and gave you a sense that you are staying in a part of history. There is no elevator but our host, Anthony, was very gracious in carrying up our suitcase. Both Anthony and Chrissy, new hosts within the past few months, were extraordinarily friendly and helpful. Evening wine was served from 5:30 to 6:30 allowing us to chat with other guests before going out to dinner and then, upon arriving back, there were freshly baked cookies. Morning breakfast was continental during the week with fresh baked pastries and hot gourmet breakfasts on the weekends and always a large bowl of fresh cut fruit. We did quite a bit of research prior to picking a place to stay and were truly delighted by this most reasonably priced gem with wonderful hosts, in the heart of the historic district.
