“Heart of Old Philadelphia”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

The Thomas Bond House in the historic section of Philadelphia is a good bargain. It is located within two blocks of all major historic venues and good restaurants. Parking is available next door for a fee. We arrived for a two day visit and never had to use the car.
This B&B looks like an historic Inn, has good service, a delicious breakfast and a restful sitting area. Wine and cheese were available to ease the fatigue of all day sightseeing. The Chocolate chip cookies helped to make my dreams come true. The décor is appropriate for the period and it takes little imagination to recreate the constitutional debates of our forefathers.
Room 302 is small as advertised and I would recommend a larger room next time. The bed was adequate but too soft for my comfort. Problems with the TV remote were annoying but tolerable.

Room Tip: Be prepared to climb stairs.

My wife and I had never been to Philadelphia. We wanted to experience the full American Revolution experience at the "Cradle of Liberty" in Philadelphia, PA. We wanted a B & B close to the Independence National Part in the "Old City" of Philadelphia. I went to Trip Advisor, searched on Bed and Breakfast in Philadelphia, and found the Thomas Bond House Bed and Breakfast in the historical district.

Our inn-keepers Peggy and Jerry were very accommodating and joined us for the 5 pm wine and cheese hour. They recommended the City Tavern to enjoy a "time of the American revolution" dinner where the servers dressed in costume of the time. The Tavern was across the street - and the meal was five star! The breakfast was part of the room - and was fantastic!

From the Inn we walked to all the historical buildings and presentations.

Room Tip: They have no elevator - and three floors. We stayed on the second floor, and had no issue with clim...

My husband and I stayed at this B and B and had a great time. Our innkeepers (Peggy and Jerry) were very pleasant and accommodating. The room was comfortably furnished and we loved the pieces that took us back in time to when the house was built. This B and B was walking distance to almost every attraction we came to see in Philadelphia. We LOVED coming in each evening to find a wine and cheese waiting to curb our dinner appetites. We very much enjoyed our stay!

Room Tip: Avoid the top floor is you don't climb stairs.

This B&B is just across the street from the historic City Tavern and a short walk to most major tourist attractions nearby. Convenient public parking garage is available right next door. Public transportation also located near the Inn which we used to travel to a show at the Wells Fargo Center arena. The Innkeepers and staff were very helpful and most accommodating. We enjoyed relaxing in the parlor room and reading more on the Thomas Bond house and other colonial Philadelphia history. The full breakfast was great, and enjoyed the fresh coffee available in early morning. The Elizabeth Bond room was very comfortable with nice antique decor.

This is a nice B and B, located in a historic house. The Inn is well-run and clean. It has very steep stairs and the room we stayed in was too small to include a comfortable chair, so if you like to spend much time in your hotel room, you might consider another location. The public "living room" on the first floor is very comfortable. I enjoyed a glass of wine there. The bed was comfortable. The street noise was pretty loud on Saturday night, but the other nights were quiet. It's a very good value in the historic area of Philadelphia.

Room Tip: All of the rooms have a window looking out over Welcome Park. The smaller rooms are a good value, b...

When we arrived there was a small mix-up on where to park. We got into the wrong garage that said private parking. When we finally parked, it was $19 a day. The location was perfect for touring Philadelphia for a day. We could walk to everything. We were able to see all the sites as the next day the place was closed for the government shutdown. Our room was on the 3rd floor and be prepared to carry your own suitcase or if you husband is nice enough to do 2 suitcases. By the time you get to the 3rd floor with suitcases, you are pooped. The room was very tiny and the bathroom was also small. With a small sink, there was no place to put the toiletries. The lighting was poor in the bathroom. We only spent one night here so the room was adequate for the time we stayed. Breakfast was good with few choices but not a cooked breakfast. I believe rooms in the city are very expensive so we made the best of it. The location was a big seller for us.

My boyfriend and I spent three nights at the Thomas Bond House on Labor Day weekend 2013. We spent the first night of our trip in the Thomas Bond Sr room. The room was very clean, spacious, and beautifully appointed with period furniture. I loved the large armoire in our room and the gorgeous original floors. The best part was reading and examining all of the little documents and pieces of art hung on the walls of our room, especially Thomas Bond's will! The rooms were pretty quiet, but you could occasionally hear your neighbors next door if they were laughing or chatting above a normal register. The breakfast was delicious (three courses), and the wait staff was delightful and very helpful. The next two nights we stayed in the Sarah Venables Bond room which was also lovely but much smaller than the first. Still it offered enough space for the two of us to lounge and sleep comfortably. The bathrooms were clean and pretty large and had great showers. I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone who is looking to have a unique experience in a historic part of Philadelphia.
