Some examples of our mouth watering Roman delicacies include our signature Artichokes alla Romana, Abbacchio(Lamb chops) scotta dito, and Bucatini all'amatriciana. Contrary to what some people say, we spelled our name as "Core de Roma" intentionally, meaning "The Heart of Rome" in our family's dialect. Our ultimate goal is to make all of our customers feel like family through our cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and home-made dishes. At Core De Roma you can expect the true heart of Rome in the heart of Philly.

“Terrific Italian in Unexpected Location”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

I don't know how we had missed Core de Roma up to now. Great Italian places tend to be in South Philly as opposed to on South Street, so we weren't sure what we'd find, but what we did was excellent true Roman cuisine in a small, hopping room. The cocktails were great, the hot fresh-baked bread was even better, and the menu had so many wonderful options that it was really difficult to decide. I loved the complimentary plate of white beans that kept us from starvation as we struggled over what to order. We loved everything we ordered: the stuffed artichokes (not on the printed menu), pasta al pomodoro, mussels, vitello core de Roma, and veal parmigiana (also not on the menu but they were happy to make it). Service was great even though the place was packed, and the bill was almost embarrassingly low. The only thing keeping Core from being five stars is the plain, almost Spartan décor, but regardless of ambience, we hope to return soon!

“Felt like home”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

My family and I visited this restaurant on our final night in Philly. We have great Italian food in my hometown so it's not easy to impress us. This restaurant did. Every dish was flavorful and fresh and was made with amore. In particular, the gnocchis, artichoke appetizer and pasta were delicious. Our host, Joe, went above and beyond to give us a great experience, going so far as to hail cabs for us in the pouring rain, getting completely soaked, but remaining cheerful. This place has a great atmosphere, you really feel like you're soaking up the real Philly, not Philly for tourists. It's worth the cab ride to South St. Skip the obvious and form over substance places and hit Core de Roma instead!

“Good food and service”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

Very good food, especially loved the artichokes appetizer! Very good service and even though they have a full bar, they allow diners to bring their own wine. And no corkage fee!

“Another great pre-race meal”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

This is now my pre-race AND special occasion Italian restaurant, because you cannot go wrong at Core de Roma.

Again, we had a 5pm reservation and again, Joe greeted us like family. We were seated at a great table near the statue and had wonderful service from all staff.

Food was served fresh, hot and so yummy. I ate my entire plate of spaghetti, fueling me to my personal best half-marathon time. :-)

We will be back many, many times. (And yes, this is what the food in Italy tastes like but in some cases, better!)

If you go, you must do the artichokes because they will taste like nothing you have ever tasted before.
