“Little Bits of Spain”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

We ate here before leaving early for Key West the next a.m. So we had an early reservation. The first impression is that you just walked into a trendy tapas house in Madrid. It's further stamped on you that it really is an Americanized version of a Spanish tapas house as you look at the menu.

We had a very serviceable Vinho Verde... and then... Albondigas, Pulpo a la Gallega, Alcachofas a la parmesana, Croquetas de Bacaloa and Datiles Con Almendres. It's the best octopus (pulpo) I've ever had... and the salt cod croquettes were fabulous.

The service is crisp yet casual. The atmosphere is pure Spanish.

As with any small plate operation... you can run up quite a tab by relying on your hunger meter to stop you. The brilliance of the small plate style of dining is that you get really high value dishes at a fraction of the price.

This will be our new go to place when we're flying out of PHL.

“A wonderful time sharing great food”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

Had a great dinner here by ordering a la carte. The menu is extensive, offering something for everyone. If you are a bit more adventurous this is a great way to try some new things, expertly prepared. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and its preparation and helped us navigate around some tricky food allergies. We got 9 dishes for 3 people and it was more than enough. The sangria was a great accompaniment but a bit on the sweet side. Sharing the plates and trying new things made for a fun night.

“Tasty Spanish Tapas”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

Low lighting, intimate, candle lit bar area serving very tasty tapas. Food is brought to you when ready and can be a wait but its worth it.

“Absolutely fabulous and authentic Spanish food.”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

Very very good Spanish food. My friend has lived in Barcelona and was amazed at the authenticity of the ingredients and cooking techniques. Quite expensive, but really exceptional meal. Get the pork shoulder Iberico – one of the best things I have ever eaten.

“Tasty tapas”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

Anthony Bourdain in his "Parts Unknown" series revels in the wonderful and "free" tapas of Spain. At Amada the tapas are definitely not free, but they are very good. Unlike the Basgue tapas of Catalonia (Barcelona) which typically are small ovals of bread topped with tasty treats, Amada's Andalucian tapas are small plate offerings. There is a prix fixe option; our party of three chose to order a la carte. The waiter recommended 3 tapas per person, but two per person would satisfy many appetites (certainly for a party of 4 or more). The service was friendly and attentive. An interesting décor is enhanced by an open kitchen. Some diners might find the lighting a bit too dim, more consistent with a fancy bar or bistro than an upscale restaurant. Bare, varnished tables (no tablecloths) also detract from the dining experience. Our choice of red wine, very excellent, was served in a tall-stemmed, large wine glass which only accentuated the miserly pour. The desert of three flavors of homemade sorbets was sublime.

Philadelphia has many fine restaurants and Amada is one of them. Diners, no doubt, are drawn to Amada by the Jose Garces name, but I was left asking was our dining experience in line with the final tab. On this night I didn't think so.
