Description: "Convivial and inviting, Osteria's heart is its open main kitchen from which its award-winning menu of antipasti, homemade pastas, house-cured salumi, authentic Neapolitan and Roman-style pizzas, wood-grilled meats, seafood and decadent desserts are crafted. Drawing its inspiration from traditional osterias found in Northern Italy, Osteria is the realization of a dream Vetri Family partners Jeff Benjamin and Chefs Marc Vetri and Jeff Michaud had while standing amongst the grapes of the Ca'Marcanda vineyards in Tuscany. Since opening in 2007, Osteria has become one of the country's most critically acclaimed Italian restaurants, receiving a 3-out-of-4 bell review from the Philadelphia Inquirer, and earning Chef Michaud the 2010 James Beard Foundation Award for "Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic" for his work helming the kitchen."

“The Best in Philly -- I don't think so, but is was good”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

The service is very mediocre -- out of three dishes, the Pasta was excellent -- the wild boar bolongnes. The special appetizer was very mediocre -- squash blossoms deep fried in (dirty) oil with a creamy goat cheese sauce, and the skirt steak was just OK. We split 3 courses, but the kitchen couldn't find itself to split the plates for us, and the waitress was AWOL when we needed clean plates. The sparkling water is faucet filtered which is fine but flat, FLAT F-L-A-T! Deserts were uninspiring and un-imaginable. I'd take old school South Philly anytime.

“Dishes may not be what you expect”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

For being one of the hottest places in Philadelphia, we were very disappointed overall. We expected expensive, but we expected a great dining experience for the cost.

The menu plays fast and loose with naming. For example, we had 'soft polenta' that was creamed corn (My husband is northern Italian and knows his polenta.) and the zuppa inglese was a piece of cake with chantilly cream. The other complaint was related to one of our favorite food delicacies--stuffed zucchini blossoms. Theirs had so much filling and so heavy a batter that the delicate taste of the blossoms (two small) was overwhelmed.

No. We won't be back.

“wonderful entre presentation and super service by everyone”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

Dishes are quite unique and very good with an occasional oops! My dish was a "special"-of-the- day. It was overly oily and almost tasteless. The ravioli was so covered in oil that its flavor was masked and made the pasta shell tough. The rest of our party were more that satisfied with their dishes.
The dolci goat cheesecake with fresh berries is "to die for". So was the veggie insalata.

I have to add that the presentation of each dish was exquisite and the service, from making the reservation to the attention to details, was more than one could reasonably expect.

“Osteria disappointing all around!”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

While visiting Philadelphia for a wedding, we (3 of us) went to Osteria for dinner with great anticipation for a great dining experience given that it is a Ventri restaurant. My boyfriend is a fabulous cook and cooks from Ventri's Rustic Italiano cook book frequently. Our other friend is also a good cook so we were excited for dinner. Needless to say, it was disappointing all around. The service was slow (it took an hour for us to be served our dinner), the restaurant was loud (we sat in the garden room which has mostly glass windows and ceiling). Our dinners were just okay (chicken, rabbit and ?); the brussle sprouts were greasy and over cooked to almost being burnt. The wine was good! The salad and appetizer were good. For dessert we ordered pistachio Gelato (my favorite) which was mostly melted by the time it arrived at our table and had little flavor. Very disappointing as I do not eat dessert much but was looking forward to creamy yummy pistachio! Prior to the Gelato arriving, a plate of 3 mini Canoli's arrived, which we said we did not order .. . the server said that once it comes to your table, they cannot take it back . . so enjoy! We tried the canoli's which I think had hazelnut but it had no flavor but the guys kept trying to figure it out, but gave up too. We mentioned to the waitress that the food was disappointing which of course she said she wished she had known . . .in the end, although it was very loud and we had a hard time hearing each other, friends enjoy being together, but we will not be going back. All in all, disappointing . . . .

“Beautiful room great food”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

Due to unexpected traffic we had to keep moving our reservation back. They couldn't have been more accommodating when we finally arrived. We started off with a great pizza which was a great first. Our entree's were well prepared and the service was excellent. The room is modern open and is clearly a very popular scene. All in all a great Italian restaurant in a city of many great Italian places. Recommend without reservation.
