“Playing with Purpose: An Independent Theater”

Excellent acting, interesting stage sets, comfortable, close-in seating, friendly staff, always interesting, somewhat off-beat plays, and always with a social justice emphasis. That can get a bit predictable, but that's their mission.

“HORRIBLE!”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Don't waste your money and time, unless you enjoy seeing good acting no matter how terrible the play. It's boring, the dialog is often unintelligible, and it has a couple of pretty disgusting scenes. Its worse offense, however, is that it has no redeeming value. There is nothing to be learned, no universal theme expressed, and makes no point. I like supporting the Wilma as a subscriber but I feel like I've been taken advantage of with this play.

“Unconventional yet extremely well done productions”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

This theater definitely pushes boundaries and don't stick with conventional topics. Everything i've seen here has been extremely well done. The sets nearly always stand out as being unique and impressive in scale. Plays are always thought provoking.

“Under the Whaleback”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

In three words: riveting! Powerful! Engaging! To say more might be a spoiler. I am a subscriber. This play, for me, has been the best so far this season. The time flew by. Incredible staging!

Warning: a lot of swearing and a little nudity.

“Small theater with cutting edge plays”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Seats are comfortable, ticket prices are reasonable and plays are not run of the mill retreads. The theater is located next to the Doubletree Hotel on Broad St. and is close to many good restaurants.
