Owner description: The head church of Philadelphia's Catholic Archdiocese is on the National Registrar of Historic Places. Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass here in 1979.

This is a beautiful Basilica and very near the Art Museum etc. Well worth the stop if Basilica's are your thing! Philadelphia always had a large Catholic population and this stands as a reminder of what our city used to be like. Like other people stated this is a working church so if your not interested in Mass look to see what times it is open to avoid disappointment.

Simply jaw dropping and amazing. I have never been to see the great cathedrals in Europe but seeing this and the ones in NYC make me really want to go! Breathtaking and amazing from the stained glass to the art and statues. Makes for a religious experience so to speak seeing people can create such beauty as a tribute and honor to God.

If you are in the area of the art museums, don't miss going into this beautiful church. It is free to enter. It is a working church, so you need to schedule your visit around church service times.

Worth a stop in to see the beautiful architecture, alters and ceiling. One of the grandest churches in a city with a traditionally large Catholic population.

This is an inspiring church. Even if your not religious, you'd appreciate the artwork and design of the building. It reminds me of the Basilica in my home town, St. John's, NL. Very beautiful.
