“Wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2014

I am an admirer of architecture and staying at the Morris House Hotel was a delightful treat. I spent some time admiring the original fireplaces. There is no typical lobby instead there were two sitting rooms just beyond the entrance. One of the rooms had a cloth covered table with china cups and saucers for coffee and tea. After braving the arctic winds walking from the train station, it was lovely to have a hot cup of coffee and a homemade cookie.

I had a suite on the third floor and the feel of the room is more like a charming guest room in someone's home than a hotel room. The bathroom was perfect. Plenty of toiletries, towels and a huge shower stall.

The bed was super comfortable with lots of pillows.

I would suggest asking for a room on the lower floors if you have an issue with walking up stairs. There isn't an elevator and I am glad for it.

I didn't sample the breakfast so can't review the quality of the food. However, next time I'm in town I will stay at the Morris House and enjoy the breakfast.

If you love history, architecture and unique boutique hotels, you must stay at the Morris House Hotel. It's close to many attractions and restaurants and, for such a lovely hotel, the price is right.

Room Tip: Top floor suite if you want quiet and space.

Looking to stay in the historical district, yet not in a big chain hotel, we found Morris House. What a find it was. Our room was large, yet comfy. We were able to walk to the historical area and fine restaurants within minutes. The only part that needs some adjustment was the continental breakfast. As high quality as the hotel is, the breakfast was incredibly average. Overall a wonderful place to stay.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Morris House Hotel and really enjoyed it. We liked it so much that we are going back next month. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and charming. The staff were friendly and helpful. The colonial style and the historic setting helped make our stay a memorable one. The late afternoon cookies and tea were delicious and appreciated. The continental breakfast was one of the best I've ever had. Too often, continental breakfasts are not worth wasting your time. At the Morris House, they serve a breakfast with quality ingredients including fresh pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, tea, juice, etc. One minor point is that there is a train that runs underground and every now and then the house shakes a little bit. The noise was not bad and it didn't disturb our sleep at all.

A couple of tips: 1. If you drive and park on the street, do not skimp on the time that you purchase to park your car and return early if you need to add more time. You will be ticketed within 1 minute of your parking expiration. Otherwise, there is off-street parking across the street for a fee and you receive a small discount as a Morris House guest. 2. I found the best rates by searching on-line and then calling the Morris House directly. They will match or beat the best price that you find on-line and with better terms.

If you want to enjoy the culture, arts, and excitement of the city of brotherly love but do not want to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of it all, then Morris House is the place! Staying here is like staying a world away from the speed of the city but you just have to walk out your door and a few blocks and you can either be in the middle of the history, the arts or the culture of Philadelphia. The house is beautiful and peaceful. The staff is superb at making your stay comfortable and relaxing.

Room Tip: there is not a bad room!

We just returned from an overnight stay celebrating our anniversary at the Morris House! The location is perfect to explore the Old Town/Historic area, Washington Square and Mid Town - all a 10-30 minute walk. The area seemed quite safe even walking home late after dinner. The history of the house is interesting and the staff was incredibly welcoming, professional and kind. The rooms are all unique, and room 303 was beautiful. Plenty of room, good lighting, spotless. I loved the linens and the bed was comfortable. The continental breakfast was delicious with several types of fruit breads, fresh rolls, croissants, cereals, and mini quiches. The coffee was very hot, fresh and refilled constantly, In addition there was hot tea and cookies when we arrive between 3-4 and complimentary wine between 4-5. Highly recommend! We can't wait to return!

The location is the best if you want to be in the old heart of Philly. The house is charming, well kept, and beautiful. Lowell is a great host, very helpful and accommodating. We loved the place so much that we went back for a second night. Our first night was in the old house. Our second night was in the annex, which is more modern and has more amenities, like a kitchenette and tub with jets. While we preferred the original house, both rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable. We highly recommend it! (FYI--If you're driving, the parking garage is conveniently located across the street).

The Morris House is intimate and comfortable. You know you are in Philadelphia; many of the books are by and about Philadelphia. The staff is helpful and the rooms are each unique and comfortable. The restaurant next door is superb, with an attentive staff responsible to special needs. A gem.
