“Don't miss it”
Reviewed July 30, 2013 via mobile

This is seriously the most awesome food market. Talk to the traders about what they do, theses a cheese stand at the back where all the cheese is made on the family farm and aged in a cave e they blasted out of the side of the mountain with dynamite. The Quaker pies are to die for

“A cool place to visit”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

A market with lots of crafts and Ethnic PA food. The place with the local variants on grilled cheese sandwiches was great. I recommend wandering around and finding the local food that appeal to you.

Good place to pick up some gifts or souvenirs.

“Must do!”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We went here not expecting much but were surprised by how terrific the market was. The different stalls/shops selling all kinds of products and fresh produce, the places to eat/buy food from, the atmosphere - everything was wonderful.
If you are in Philadelphia you must try and make a visit to the Reading Terminal Market.

“Tourist Trap”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Was a great place years ago. Now overpriced, less maintained, and the loving feeling is gone. I'm guessing because of the cost of doing business in Philly. The city is going broke and taxing businesses who need to pass it on to the consumer. One of the highest cost in the country. I also don't feel safe here. A big problem in center city is safety with roving gangs. Maybe I'm paranoid. maybe I'm right.

If going to eat there, the seating is terrible. It is extremely difficult to find a seat and then you're often sitting with people you don't know. Even you you get seating ,you're definitely too close to the party next to you and often there is only counter seating.

If you're going there to shop, trust me it's not cheap as the enviroment implies. Go to a beautiful air conditioned mall, high end food market, or high end department store in town and enjoy
.
Not for me.

“An historical market that's been modernized to keep up with the times. A Philly must-see.”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Like Baltimore's Lexington Market this is a traditional American market where producers bring their goods to sell to city dwellers. Unlike Lexington Market, Reading Terminal is bright and clean and free of all rough edges.

There's something for everybody here: produce and raw ingredients, food stands, sit down options, bakeries, and even books and gifts.

There are Asian stands, Mediterranean foods, fresh cheese stands, a great German food stand complete with some German groceries for sale, Italian delis, and even an all-lamb deli.

We ate roast pork sandwiches at Tommy DiNic's then wandered about, having a hard time deciding on dessert. There are are cookie bakeries, a chocolate shop, an ice cream stall, a gelato stand, enormous freshly filled Pennsylvania Dutch donuts, and even an Italian bakery with traditional Neapolitan cookies and pastries.

We bought some jerky to take home from a Pennsylvania Dutch shop and then opted for a hot apple dumpling.

Make it a point to stop by for lunch the next time you're in Philly.
