Great place to roam & eat REAL Philly food. Great breads, FRESH meats, sandwiches, all types of gourmet take home food for dinner, plus Bassetts amazing rich local ice cream-love butterscotch vanilla & chocolate chocolate chip!

“What a wonderful market!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

I forget how long this market has been operating in place, but it's quite a while. And there's a good reason for its success; choose from a wide range of busy, quality restaurants (some, like Dinics, with huge lineups - though we think Hershel's Deli was way better!), produce shops and other hand-crafted stores. Try the butter cake at the Flying Monkey (and watch yourself go back for more to take home!). The Thai restaurant has some rude waiters, but great food, so you don't mind so much! Beck's Cajun Cafe was my daughter's favorite, with very friendly staff who will let you - indeed, want you! - to try samples of their food. Also loved the foodie bookshop. Altogether, Reading Market is a great place to go for lunch, and so very close to the Convention Center.

“Don't Believe the Hype”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

What's all the hooplah about? Ok, it's a huge market with several food stations set up by a variety of nationalities. The food didn't even look appealing but we wanted to try something after reading great reviews. Wasn't impressed, but if you are a tourist don't miss the experience. I would just go elsewhere to have a nice lunch/dinner and just grab a snack there just so you can say, "been there, done that".

“Reading Terminal- a Philadelphia landmark”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

This is a preserved part of an old train terminal which was converted to an assortment of eateries and food sales. It has sandwiches, fresh seafood, and local flavor of Philadelphia. There is something here for everybody- and you have to visit whenever you're in town.

“Great Selection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2012

It's a unique experinece to visit the Reading Terminal Market.

There is a quite a selection to choose from. We ate the pork (not so great-dry), a bowl of miso soup (worst watery miso soup I had ever had), and a Mennonite diner-type place (the food was great) located across from the Amish bakery site.

I rate it so highly b/c there is such a variety between prepared foods, a little fresh markets, a few private shop stalls; that you will surely find something that you like to snack on while walking about the streets of Philadelphia.
