Description: THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE! In the summer of 1976, my father and a business partner opened Jim's Steaks South St., Bringing a unique art-deco storefront and an even more distinctive cheesesteak to a neighborhood in the midst of a renaissance. Few would have predicted that over the course of nearly four decades the shop would become one of the most celebrated restaurants in Philadelphia. You'll find us on what's known as the "Hippest Street in Town," serving up the finest cheesesteaks and hoagies from the heart of the city that made them famous. Five-time winner of Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly" award and Zagat rated, Jim's is your 'must-have' cheesesteak when only the BEST will do. With well over 200 years of cheesesteak-making knowhow, our staff will make you glad you stopped in each and every time you visit. Whether you're a Philly native or a conventioneer, touring the city's incredible history and museums or just passing through, you'll know you're getting the real Philly cheesesteak experience when you walk through our door. Ask anyone who has tasted our sandwiches! We can't wait to show you how it's done. Our best, Ken Silver Second Generation Proprietor Jim's Steaks South St.

“Long line...but worth it!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

We arrived to a line wrapped around the corner so I was a little worried about how long it would take. We were out the door with our food in about 20 minutes. Sandwiches were great and well priced. Note they only take cash. We took our sandwiches to a nearby park because there wasn't any seating upstairs. South street is quite a unique area, but worth the trip!

“Worth the Wait!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

Jim's Steaks offers the best cheese steak option in Philadelphia. Period. The line may be a bit intimidating, but completely worth it as the steaks are prepared fresh to your order right in front of you. The restaurant offers first-come-first-serve seating and serves alcohol. A great place to visit while walking along South Street!

“Best Cheesesteaks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

My husband and I went here last month when we were in Philly for the day; it was everything I hoped it would be! Delicious! Im not an expert on cheesesteaks or anything but we loved this one. The staff were friendly and chatted with us while we were in the queue and we ate upstairs as there is some seating there (limited). I would massivly reccomend going here!

“Worth the trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

After hearing about Jim's from the locals as the place to get a Philly Cheesesteak we took the walk to South Street after visiting the Liberty Bell. Although it was a good walk, you can drive and park along 4th street easier than walking. The Steak with Cheese Wiz was good and my husband got onions and mushrooms which we liked better. My son got his with provolone cheese and said it was good too. We actually went back the next night to have another one before we left Philly! Give it a try, it's worth the trip!

“1st Time Excellent...2nd Time....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

First time I went there the steak absolutely melted in my mouth....succulent and dripping with flavor....second time not even close...bland and ordinary. Don't mess with success or watch your South Street location more closely cause something has changed...unless it was just a bad day. I will return to see if it was just that...cause this was my favorite Philly Steak til last visit.
