“Pizza takeaway”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

Been a couple of times. First time very very good, second time average. Would try again in the hope of the pizza being up to the standard of the first one.

“Amazing tomato pie!”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

This pizzeria has an incredible selection of food to choose from. If you are in the area, I would strongly recommend trying their tomato pie as well as the mozzarella and spinach pizza!! As an added bonus it's in a great location, easy to access and the staff there are always so welcoming and helpful.

“Excellent Tomato Pie”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

After an earthquake destroyed Zio Toto’s garden of figs, tomatoes, eggplant and basil in Sicily, he packed up his family and moved to Philadelphia. The family recipes have been passed down to Zio’s grandson and are now part of Joe’s Pizza. Joe’s has a large variety of pizzas. When we were there, we had the tomato pie. It is said to be the best in the city. It is made with yeast dough which is allowed to rise twice, and fresh San Marzano tomatoes, cooked down to a marinara sauce. Delicious!

“The pizza was as good as the counter guy's accent.”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

Went during the busy lunch hour while traveling in the city. I was pressured to make a quick decision because there wasn't much room to view the pizza, a line behind you, and a guy barking at you "whatta due-ya want". I settled on a slice of sausage. The slice was put in the oven maybe 2 minutes. The cheese was room temperature. The sausage tasted a bit like jimmy dean - not very italian. Overall, mediocre at best.

“Excellent on paper, average on the plate.”
Reviewed September 4, 2012 via mobile

This place really should be a great pizza joint, but isn't. 80 year old coming in to make a Sicilian tomato sauce... a stop on a Philly food tour... 15+ different pizzas by the slice... packed at lunchtime, but highly efficient line... unfortunately, doesn't stand out. Sauce is not exceptional (good acidity, but without the fruity velvety of great tomatoes). Generally, the vegetable slices have a fresher flavor, evident in the tomato pie, zucchini, and arugula. Meat slices are salty without much else, sausage resembles Sbarro, pepperoni oily and undercooked. There's a lot that could make this place great, but the taste of the pizza makes this place average.
