“Beware when the waiter doesn't tell you pricing of specials...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2013

My family and I had dinner here to celebrate an anniversary. We glanced at the menu online beforehand so we knew it would be somewhat expensive but we didn't realize just how much. The food was good, but RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. $50 for a steak...$10 just for the side dishes...$15 a bottle for a Miller Lite...

My father ordered a beer. It was completely flat and had no taste and he only had maybe two sips. He sent it back thinking he wouldn't be charged for a drink that wasn't good but he was charged! It's $15 a bottle! Also, our waiter told us about some specials such as the small platter of the seafood sampler, with the crab meat, lobster, etc. He did not mention the price but did say it was an appetizer for two. And that there was also a large for four people. So we got the small thinking maybe 20-25 bucks. If we would have known it was going to cost $69, we definitely would not have ordered it. It wasn't an entrée...just an appetizer!

It's a neat idea...the converted boat and all. But the prices are completely outrageous for the amount of food and the quality of food. I could literally have gotten a steak prepared just as well at Outback for $9.99. Also, maybe they shouldn't let an entire wedding reception walk through the main dining area, carrying on and asking random people to stop eating and take their picture.

I have tried to contact Moshulu through several emails regarding my father being charged for his beer and for the pricing of the appetizer that we were not told about. But no response. I recommend you go someplace else in the city...anywhere else. If you do go, ALWAYS ask pricing and if you want drinks - just wait until after dinner and go to a local Philly bar.

“Went from biggest fan to disappointed.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013 via mobile

Was shocked after coming a year ago and loving it. I can honestly say I routed my trip through Philadelphia just to eat here again and what a waste. I did not get past my warm beer and cold appetizers. The service was awful and I left saddened without ordering dinner. In fairness the manager came out and kindly offered condolences. Won't be back but will always remember my first trip fondly.

“Wonderful place to have a wedding”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

Our daughter planned her wedding on the Moshulu with every part of the event contained on the ship. The staff were incredible, from the initial planning to the support on the day. They supported every part of the ceremony on the top deck, the cocktail hour immediately after on the top deck, the dinner in a private dining room, then the reception back on the upper deck.

For the ceremony they did a great job arranging the deck, then staff came form nowhere to change the deck to a cocktail lounge in no time at all. Chairs were rearranged and whisked away, cocktail tables appeared, and service staff walked around with platters of wonderful appetizers.

Dinner was also very good. The quality of the dishes varied. The veal, for example, was succulent and moist for most people, but some came out dry and overcooked. The duck was fantastic. The short ribs also were very tasty. The salad was crisp and fresh. I don't know how this compares to the regular menu, but based on the overall quality of the food, I would give this restaurant a try.

Based on the attentiveness and support of staff, this is definitely a place to consider for special occasions.

“JUST NOT MY KIND OF PLACE”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013

Extremely expensive, and this style of cooking went out in the 90's. Charging incredibly high prices for a chef's artistic presentation of food is ridiculous. Clients were not impressed nor was I, and its bad when even my kids leave hungry because of portion size. High price to pay just to eat in a vintage ship. Being a Marine, I'd rather eat in the chow hall/mess deck of a US Naval vessal.

“Still a neat experience.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

Took a date from high school there 40 years ago, now the Sunday brunch with all you can drink champagne specialties. The food was quite good from pre meal to dessert. Soups, salads, breads, cheeses, meats, main courses, etc. It's $40 on a Sunday but you can sit there for 2-3 hours taking your time and taking in the views of the river from an authentic 4 masted schooner that been sitting there for 45 + years. William our waiter was fantastic and a real pleasure to talk to. very knowledgeable and always attentive. A great young man.
