The calamari appetizer was amazing, great change not having it fried. Pork Chops were cooked to perfection! If you're looking for a great meal with great service, try this place.

Had concert tix for the Philly orchestra and made the mistake of not having made dinner reservations in advance. Called around and everything was booked. Managed to cop a reservation for 5:45 at La Viola and we were blessed with a great meal.

Place was packed for a Saturday night. Excellent service an no complaints on that score. 5 stars for service.

The wife was very pleased with her seafood linguini. I got the lobster ravioli (I always get the this when I see it on the menu!). A nice rendition with a little bit of heat in the filling and a vodka sauce. Very nice balance. The bread could have been a touch more moist; it was dry in some places. I give the food 4.5 stars. Cappuccino was very good as was the Tiramisu.

Interior is very homey, but tight quarters. White table cloth. The smallness of the place makes it quite loud. They have done about the best they can with such a small place, but no real view. I give it 4 stars for atmosphere as I reserve 5 stars for places that are very special. The noise level would not be conducive for romance unless you go there when it is not so crowded. Large tables are available for special occasions, but prepared to not hear from one end of the table to the other.

Place is BYOB, which is a plus in my book and helps save on cost. Entrees were very reasonably priced. My lobster ravioli was $17. Salad had to be ordered separately, but the salad was excellent for the money. The rumor was that it was cash-only, but they have since changed their policy. 5 stars for value.

La Viola is a wonderful Italian restaurant conveniently situated between the theater district and Rittenhouse Square. The antipasta mista, vitello alla Viola and fish special were excellent - as was the service. On the Saturday evening we ate there, the simple white-walled dining room was packed with a lively pre-theater crowd, and there were many people waiting outside to replace them.

Warm, welcoming restaurant -- from hostesses to servers. BYOB not really my cup of tea, but prevalent in Philly --p articularly Italian restaurants. Veal dish was excellent but a little heavy on the sauce for me. Caesar salad tasty. All in all, a nice experience at La Viola West. Restaurant is small and seating tight but not as cozy as La Viola where one sits elbow to elbow and the noise level is very high. Go early in evening or on a "non weekend" night if you want to avoid the noise factor.

We had dined here in the West restaurant and really enjoyed it so we planned a family gathering for 8 people and unfortunately were seated in the basement of the East. It was terrible. The noise was deafening from large groups and shocking acoustics. We had an older group who found it impossible to talk over the noise. Our average age was 60. The food was mediocre and I think they were having problems dealing with the big crowds. We were between a very large bridal shower and an outrageously loud college reunion. It was miserable. Avoid that basement - it is really deafening and not dining.
