“The best meal--hands down!”
Reviewed April 9, 2014

I took a client and a work colleague here during a large academic meeting and we were all completely blown away by both the quality of the food and the overall experience. We had a sea urchin appetizer (from the daily specials) and I usually do not really enjoy sea urchin. This was out of this world--apparently, when Morimoto cooks it, sea urchin is entirely delicious!

As for the rest of the meal, one of my colleagues had the surf and turf, which he raved about, and 2 of us had the Seafood ‘Toban Yaki’. The quality of the seafood was superb, the seafood was cooked perfectly and the miso butter broth it was served in was so good we had to restrain ourselves from drinking it directly from the bowl. So good!!!

Desserts were also wonderful--especially my miso honey cake which was just sweet enough and had an interesting taste--a delicious way to end the meal.

The servers were very personable and knew a huge amount about the food. They were willing to share their information with us in a polite and friendly way, which made entire experience all the better.

The decor is interesting adn fun, but, the real star is the food!

“A great Japanese restaurant with Japanese-like attention to detail”
Reviewed April 9, 2014

Great (but pricy) Japanese restaurant in downtown Philadelphia. Stunning Blade Runner-like interior (the tables are surrounded by glass walls that slowly change colour throughout your meal imperceptibly. Sounds intrusive, but it really isn't.) Had the tasting menu - which was fantastic but too much food. Service was nice - though I could do without every waiter explaining the ingredient makeup of every dish every time. Recommended.

“Definitely Iron Chef Quality”
Reviewed April 7, 2014

I've been watching Morimoto on iron chef for a very long time - so there was no way I could go to Philadelphia and not visit Morimoto's restaurant there!

I went for lunch - and chose the omakase - a seven course culinary tour - chosen by the chef. Each plate just got better and better - it included tartare, sashimi, black cod, cherry mousse on chocolate torte - AMAZING!!!

Service was great, servers were very conversant in the composition of the dishes - and the quantity of the food was just perfect - even for a big guy with a big appetite! A must experience in Philadelphia!

“Must do the tasting”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

When you talk Morimoto, you talk best of the best. So, you just have to try the tasting menu. My Wife and I sat down at 6:45 and finished our last mouthful at 10:15. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Every dish that came out the person bringing it would explain what it was an how to eat it.

“Fun Birthday Celebration”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

Celebrated at this fun restaurant on a Friday night. We were greeted warmly by the host staff. Arrived early for our rezy so we went to the second floor bar to wait. There we ordered drinks and apps. Waitress was very attentive. My daughter enjoyed one of the non-alcoholic drink options, Pomegranate juice and ginger. We shared edamame and rock shrimp which were both very good. Restaurant was lively. My children had never been before and loved the decor! Once seated our waitress was very good at explaining the menu to us. Two of us ordered entrees and two shared sushi. We all sampled the food. All food was very good. Although when we go again we will all order entrees. This is where the restaurant shines. Sushi was very good but nothing extraordinary. Don't skip dessert! We shared the pot de creme and ice cream of the day. Soooo yummy.
