“Top Notch Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

WOW. This hotel blew me away! We stayed here because we were flying out early the next morning and didn't want to drive an hour to get to the airport at 3 am. We also didnt want to stay in a grungy airport hotel, so I came on here and saw Hotel Monaco was rated #1. I am so happy we stayed here! First, the location of this hotel is absolutely prime for Philly. We were an $8 cab ride away from Pat's, $5 cab to South Street, $8 cab ride to Rittenhouse Square, and a fixed rate $28.50 to the airport (15 minute ride in the early morning). The decor of this hotel alone made us not want to leave. It is a vacation within itself. The drinks at the rooftop bar were absolutely amazing and crafted beautifully. But to top it off, the view from our window was perhaps the best part. We were yards away from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, which gave us the ultimate Philadelphia feeling. Lastly, the complimentary wine hour was so much fun! They had hot toddies and a red and white wine. We had both, and both were delicious. Hands down, I will not stay in any hotel in Philly but this one.

Room Tip: definately the view of independence hall and the liberty bell!

The hotel Monaco was delightful. I love the décor in the Kimpton Hotels. The room was nice and quiet with a luxurious bed and pillows. The temperature in the room was great for sleeping, and with a sleep timer on the tv remote, I was all set for a perfect night's sleep. The Red Owl Tavern connected to the hotel is great as well. I had a tasty locally raised pork chop for dinner at the bar. Both bartenders were personable and very welcoming. I look forward to staying there again.

The Monaco on Chestnut Street came highly recommended to us and lived up to its recommendation. The staff were professional, helpful and friendly, frequently offering assistance before they were asked. The decor, which originally seemed to be a mix of too many themes, grew on me throughout our stay and didn't compromised the room's comfort or functionality. The chairs in the room were comfortable, the TV easy to view, and the room was remarkably quiet. The hotel restaurant, the Red Owl Tavern, offered such good food on the night of our arrival that we found it hard to resist for breakfast, lunch and a late night snack. We would have returned for a second dinner had we not felt compelled to be a bit more adventuresome. The hotel is located right in the middle of the historic district with everything within walking distance from the Liberty Bell to the Seaport Museum and Society Hill. Our only complaint was that we had to go down to the lobby for our morning coffee (free). I missed having a coffee pot in the room! However, it wouldn't deter me from returning to the Monaco. It far exceeded our expectations.

Thank you so much for the great review! I'm glad you discovered our two keys to success. The first being our staff and the second being our location. I hope you'll stay with us again, and when you do make sure to ask for a coffee maker and we can send it up to your room.

Happy New Year!

Although my partner and I enjoyed our stay at the Palomar last Christmas, we decided to switch it up and stay at the Monaco this year. Staying at a Kimpton Hotel is important to us, as they go above and beyond with being dog friendly - and we travel with two little pups. (Which, by the way, if you are not a dog person, please be advised that Kimpton hotels are very pet friendly and there can be dozens of dogs staying at the hotel at once).

The hotel is located directly across from Independence Hall and is surrounded by blocks of green space and historic structures. The sheer beauty and history of the neighborhood made me instantly fall in love. Some of the city's best shops and restaurants are literally steps away - a major plus.

The lobby is very whimsical and inviting. In the morning they have fresh apple cider donuts, coffee and hot chocolate. In the evening they have a free wine happy hour - a great way to meet fellow guests and unwind.

The restaurant is pretty good for a hotel restaurant. We are vegetarian, and the menu had a ton of options for us, but in a city like Philadelphia, you definitely want to get out and explore, and not waste a meal in the hotel.

The rooms are huge and well appointed - a Kimpton standard. And we were able to snag a view of Independence Hall.

For the most part, the staff went out of their way to make our experience and amazing one. From the doorman (Sean) to the front desk agent (Chelsea), we were made to feel at home from the moment we stepped in.

I have two minor complaints.

1.) There is a roof deck lounge called Stratus. Sounds cool, right? Well, on the weekends the lounge turns into a major scene with security guards and VIP managers and people lining up to get in. When you're in your pajamas walking your dog, it can get annoying. Plus, as a hotel guest, you can't just enjoy the amenity of a roof deck lounge without going through all of the nonsense (it was even suggested we buy a $35 VIP pass to guarantee access - ridiculous!)

2.) The hotel was sold out on the first night of our stay...Sold out to several different wedding parties. The wedding parties took over every inch of the hotel and one of the parties even used the free happy hour in the lobby as their wedding cocktail hour. Gross. In addition, the staff was overwhelmed and exhausted, and non-wedding guests were put to the back burner for the night. But once they all checked out, everything returned back to normal.

The Monaco is a MUST when staying in Philadelphia and the entire staff should be commended for their hard work. We will be back for sure!

We stayed at this hotel one night recently with our 50-lb. dog. All of the staff were incredibly friendly (especially to our pup!) and helpful. Even though it was a busy Friday night, they took the time to show us to our room and offer the dog a treat. The room itself was spacious, clean and well-decorated. Also, the hotel's location - directly across from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell - can't be beat.

A great new hotel located in downtown Philly. Checkin was a breeze, our room was great and our meal/drink at the hotel bar was good. The rooftop bar felt like it was trying a bit too hard, but then again the people there seemed to be trying a bit too hard themselves.

Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
