We recently stayed here for one night while enjoying the historic sites in Philadelphia. We arrived around noon and were shocked that there wa a room ready for us. Our teens thought the decor of the room was awesome. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Location is great for the historical places in the area. Would highly recommend.

Hotel Monaco has it all - from excellent customer service, to a clean, comfortable and very stylish room with a view to an intimate lobby, we were very pleased with our recent stay at the Hotel Monaco. We are fans of the Kimpton brand and this hotel will be our new favorite in Philadelphia.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, go with the parkview.

We checked into the Monaco Hotel, this past Saturday for our wedding night. We were nervous and stressed and frankly I was a bit of a mess! When we checked in the staff made sure we could get into our room early so we could get ready. We pretty much forgot everything we needed and called down for help so many times that we renamed our room the "crisis suite". The staff took amazing care of us and one of the managers on duty, John Palmer, made sure that our bow ties were perfect, we had everything we needed, sent champagne and strawberries to our room and even a fish in a small fish tank! I named the fish Gabby after our dog, who unfortunately couldn't be with us, but this hotel is also pet friendly! I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Philadelphia and can't say enough wonderful things about it!

Room Tip: Corner suites our awesome, we were in room 416 which I would highly recommend requesting.

Hi James,

I'm so glad John and our team were able to play such a memorable part of your wedding. I can tell you that we all had a good time watching John with the bow ties and our restaurant GM now has another skill to add to her resume! Best wishes to you and your fiancé. Come and visit Gabby anytime.

Cheers,
Jessica

We were originally booked to stay st the embassy suites city center but after a bad incident there we checked out and checked into the Monaco. I have stayed in many Kimpton hotels before the only reason I didn't book this in the first place is because the rooms couldn't accommodate all 5 of us. But we got 2 rooms and payed extra then we would of at the Embassy Suites but it was well worth it!! The staff is amazing, the rooms are spotless clean, extremely good location! I had such a wonderful stay words can't express how wonderful it was. The beds were like sleeping on clouds that's how comfortable it was. I will definitely stay here again! It's a 6 star hotel I would say. I felt like a Queen for four days!

Traveled to the Hotel Monaco for a family weekend in June 2013. We try to stay in Kimpton hotels whenever possible, because of the high level of service, comfortable and stylish rooms, and great amenities (pet friendly, coffee in lobby, hosted wine hour, etc). The Hotel Monaco Philadelphia hit all of those points, with a few minor misses...

Check-in - we arrived late (11:30) on Friday night, and the hotel lobby and elevator area is pretty hectic around then because of the hotel's popular rooftop bar. Check-in was fine, if a little slow, but what was annoying was trying to catch an elevator to our room, as there were so many people coming and going at that time. And one elevator, of the four, was dedicated to the rooftop bar. This was probably more frustrating for us, since we were trying to get our sleepy toddler into a bed ASAP. Anyway, the bevy of inebriated people coming and going from the hotel around midnight on a Friday made for interesting people-watching... But I would not advise arriving around the time that we did - the valets and staff are harried, the lobby area is hectic, and it was just a bit stressful.

Location - the hotel is ideally situated for exploring many of the historic sites in Philly. You are literally a block or two away from a dozen historic sites, and its very walkable to plenty of restaurants and shops, as well. It is also very close to many government offices, if traveling for work purposes.

Pet-friendly - this is a great place to stay if traveling with a dog. They are truly pet friendly! Our dog received treats and lots of attention from the hotel staff. We did not received a dog bed in our room, as some other family members traveling with a dog did. This was not a problem for us (or our dog), but it shows some inconsistency.

Restaurant - the restaurant has a very cool, rustic/industrial vibe. The breakfast there was very good. The service was good at one sitting, slow at another. The bar serves great cocktails and the bartenders provided great service. One minor complaint: we grabbed some bagels and cream cheese for take-away one morning and only after we were driving in our car did we realize they packed them without plasticware or napkins - which made spreading the cream cheese onto the bagels a challenge. And as long as I'm complaining about the bagels, it took about 15 minutes to toast three of them (maybe there's only one toaster?). I can't comment on the rooftop bar, Stratus, as it was closed for a private event on Saturday, but based on the long lines we saw Friday trying to get in - its probably pretty cool.

Service and Amenities - are excellent. Everyone - the doormen, bellboys, front desk staff - was very friendly and accommodating. All of our questions and requests were addressed promptly, and with a smile. The lobby area has free coffee and tea in the morning (including iced coffee, which I thought was a nice touch), and hosts the wine hour each evening. The hotel has free wifi for InTouch members.

Now this is where the review gets a little weird...

Rooms - the rooms are very nice, and very stylish (bold prints and colors, etc). The bed is very comfortable. And since we had a King Spa room, we had a huge bathroom with a nice big freestanding soaking tub. We were on the 9th floor, and even with the rooftop club hopping on Friday night we did not hear any noise (although we also travel and sleep with a white noise maker). Unfortunately we did have two issues with the room - the bathrooms lights (sconces by the mirror) stopped working the first night. We played with it and they started working again at some point during the second night of our stay...strange. Even more strange, and rather scary, was that a large 3-foot piece of the mirror in our room (main room, not the bathroom) popped off, crashed onto the desk, and landed on the floor - narrowly missing my toddler daughter, who happened to be standing by the bed watching me pack! It literally missed us both by less than two feet, frightening her - and frankly freaking us out. Fortunately no one was hurt - and the cleaning crew responded immediately to clean up the broken glass (although we continued to find shards around the room after). I can only imagine this was some manufacturing defect, but the hotel should really inspect the other mirrors.

Bottom line - would I stay here again? Absolutely, its a beautiful hotel in a phenomenal location, with comfortable rooms, and a great staff. I would recommend this hotel to others without hesitation, but would probably mention that they should ensure their mirror is fully attached... The hotel is really excellent, but the few issues we experienced prevent me from rating it 5 stars.

Room Tip: If you like taking a bath - go for the King Spa

Hi,

I’m so happy to see that you have a wonderful stay and that you may be back in the future, I want you to know that we have already started the process of having every mirror in the hotel checked and either fixed or replaced. I cannot imagine how scary that must have been. Thank you so much for letting us know so that we were able to take care of this. We hope to have the family back again.

Best Wishes,
Jessica

Top notch room, service, and location. Room was well-appointed, spacious, and - most importantly - clean. Food at the resident Red Owl Tavern was surprisingly good. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again.
