“Great lodging with best location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

I've stayed at the Hotel Monaco Philadelphia twice on business and absolutely love it. This is probably one of my favorite hotels anywhere, right now. First of all its all new construction in an old building that was originally a bank. In fact, the old vault is where the Red Owl Tavern stores there wine now. The decor is similar to all the Klimpton hotels, classic styling with modern prints. The rooms are good size and the beds are comfortable. I've had park views both times with a great view of Independence Hall (see picture). There is a roof top bar that is very nice and can be closed off to inclement weather. The food at the Red Owl Tavern is excellent too. The chicken pot pie is out of this world.

The staff is excellent. I will always try to stay here when I am in Philadelphia. Love it.

i flew in to philly for the first time and couldnt of had a better time. there is not hotel in philly with a better location. right across the street from independence hall and the liberty bell. the staff was the best i have ever had. bar none the best service i ever got. the restaurants are great and the roof top is a perfect place to unwind and let loose after a long day at work.

The Hotel Monaco in Philadelphia severely lacks the comfort and kindness that the Hotel Monaco in Baltimore offers. At check in we were greeted by a long line of bar patrons looking for their coats at the front desk. After a long drive we weren't thrilled by the yelling or the wait to get to our room. We didn't feel like a priority at the front desk. Then we found out that the screaming girls looking for their jackets weren't even staying at the hotel, but were only there to drink at the rooftop bar. The room was clean and interestingly decorated, the amenities were plentiful and we both enjoyed the large bathroom and had a comfortable night's sleep. After two nights we were ready to check out and make it to our lunch reservation near the Italian market, we called 20 minutes early to have our car brought around and went down to hand in our keys. Check out was quick and pleasant, we proceeded to wait for our vehicle by the front entrance to the hotel. After 30 minutes passed we checked with the valet and he assured up our car was on the way. Fifteen minutes later it seemed as though he had forgotten who we were. At that time he had lost our ticked that we gave him. I approached the valet stand to find our ticket crumbled up and forgotten about. Meanwhile, it appeared that the valet manager was busy chasing arriving guests for tips as we stood cold and inpatient outside. After an hour and fifteen minutes of waiting for our car to arrive I finally went inside to complain to the front desk. They had to send a member of the staff out to speak to the valet so that they would actually make it a priority to retrieve our vehicle. Needless to say we missed our lunch reservations and were very unhappy and hungry by the time we left. They were able to refund our fee for parking, which I was very grateful for. But I would have gladly paid for better service and decent treatment. We won't be returning.

Dear Clevercrayon,

Thank you for staying with us, sorry to hear that other patrons disrupted your initial experience, I agree people yelling is no fun and trust me we wanted to handle that situation quickly so we could assist our guests as soon as possible. I have also followed up with the valet team with regards to the delay so that we can improve the experience.

Thanks for your feedback.

Cheers,

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend. We had a parkview king room - large and spacious. Very well-designed. We enjoyed free internet and $10 to "raid the minibar" due to being Kimpton rewards members. The free wine hour was very enjoyable and I love seeing all the dogs in the hotel! The hotel is right next to Independence Hall (of which our room had a wonderful view!) and is within easy walking distance to great restaurants, bars, shopping, and historical sites. I would highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying here again soon!

I can't say enough about this hotel! The staff was helpful and courteous, the rooms were very nice, well designed and well appointed (my wife even took picutres of the wallpaper because she liked it so much). We stayed in a one bedroom suite overlooking Independence Mall. It was a big room with comfortable beds and furniture. Plenty of room for a family of five. They are also great with kids - they gave each of my kids "Cookie Currency" which got them a cookie and glass of milk delivered to the room. We didn't eat in the Red Owl Tavern (it looked good though) but the room service breakfast was quite good and delivered on time and with a smile (thanks Katherine!). Don't miss the wine hour either. Even though they have only been open since October, they clearly have customer service down. While waiting for our car, no less than three employees approached us, asked about our stay and made sure that we had what we needed. My only dissapointment was that we didn't get a chance to try out the rooftop bar. Next time!

It is so refreshing to stay at a property that is so well-rounded and capable as Hotel Monaco in Philadelphia. From the moment of our arrival by car, we were made to feel welcome by a staff that is obviously well-trained and enjoys their job of taking care of guests. All of the amenities have been mentioned by other reviewers but I will say the fresh fruit flavored waters in the lobby as well as the wine and coffee bar. Our meals at the Red Owl Tavern were excellent including the Valentine dinner. The only problem we encountered was with another thoughtless, rude guest who had brought a dog that barked incessently day and night but we were assured that there were pet-free floors available of which we will avail ourselves next trip. The biggest plus for Hotel Monaco is location as it is literally across the street from Independence Park, the Liberty Bell, Constitution Hall, etc. so most of the major Philly freedom attractions are within easy walking distance. But if you are up to a carriage ride or want the touristy double decker bus thing, that is also just across the street. All in all a 5 star stay.

Room Tip: If you are not into sleeping in a kennel, be sure to request a pet-free floor.

Dear ChambersburgParagon,

Thank you for staying with us on recent trip to the City of Brotherly Love! Happy to see it was an enjoyable one, minus the barking dog of course.

We will see you next time on a pet free floor.
