We were given a gift certificate to stay at the Cornerstone Bed and Breakfast for one night. The proprietor was super friendly and welcoming. The room was comfortable and clean. We spent a nice hour or so relaxing on the porch in the evening. In addition to Drexel U. and the University of Pennsylvania Museum and other parts of the campus, the inn is easy walking distance from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Barnes and the Eastern State Penitentiary Museum. The continental breakfast was actually a selection of "good old American" choices and quite substantial. The gift certificate was a wonderful gift.

we stayed here for one night while taking our daughter for a college tour. its a small house converted into rooms. i dont like large hotels so this was great for us. the rooms we got were lovely. service was very good. the owners run and manage themselves so lots of attention to detail. great breakfast which was included. parked across the street. my wife got to do the laundry in the machines on premises.
i would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a quiet, smaller place to stay which is different from a hotel and very personable.

Room Tip: if you want two rooms with a small lounge and a common bathroom area, take the Continental Suite. Bit of a climb but worth it.

Our family filled three rooms at the Cornerstone B&B for our son's graduation from Drexel University. The owners of Cornerstone helped to make a very special event even more memorable by allowing us to host a catered dinner for our family in their dining room followed by dessert and wine on the front porch. The beauty and character of the house gave our graduation dinner an extra special ambiance. The B&B is perfect for anyone visiting Drexel. There are a number of fraternities and residence halls within a two block radius and it is an easy walk to the entire campus. The Train Station is an easy walk or about a $5.00 cab fare.

A bit out of the town itself, but if like us, you're planning on touring Philadelphia on foot, it is not an issue at all. A 30 minute walk from, Philly, 15 mn from the museum and 30th St train station, it is nestled in University town, in a lovely and quiet area of old houses. There are plenty of restaurants and a couple of convenience stores within walking distance too.
The room we spent the night in looked EXACTLY like its picture on the website. We found it beautiful. Now for what you can't tell by looking at a picture:
The room was very clean, the beds very comfortable (including the pull out couch), the bathroom SUPER modern, the linens were shiny white.
The internet connection is good, there is cable television.
A little guide, prepared by the owners contains plenty of useful
Breakfast was tasty and original, snacks are available throughout the day.
Last but not least, our hosts were helpful and friendly. I know the expression is a cliché, and that this was probably said before, but "Home away from home" sounds about right. I know that's were I'm heading next time I visit Philadelphia!

Parking is tough to find and expensive when you do find it. Get on the train and exit at the 5th St station to get to the Independence Visitor Center. I recommend you get a 24hr BigBusTour pass at the visitor center. This is a great way to see the city, get informed and you can jump off and back on. We have toured Vancouver and Philadelphia this way and it is a great value!

The area of Philadelphia where the B&B is located is concerning. Even though it is near a college, there were community officers stationed at almost every other corner. The morning we checked out a woman was attacked outside on the street. Yikes!

Parking is on the street, so if you visit do NOT leave anything valuable in the car.

Chris S, Owner at Cornerstone Bed & Breakfast, responded to this reviewResponded June 24, 2013

As the Owner of the Cornerstone Bed and Breakfast I wanted to thank Jeff for his nice review, but wanted to address one area of concern he had regarding our location. The Cornerstone B&B is located just one block away from Drexel University and five blocks away from the University of Pennsylvania. The highly visible police presence he noticed is NOT a result of the area being unsafe but the results of the two campus police forces overlapping each other.
I realize for people that are not from the area that the presence of police officers on almost every other corner would be disconcerting but in the five years of owning the Cornerstone Bed and Breakfast we have never had any problems.

As a small business owner and father of three I would not be able to run a successful
business nor would I want to operate a business in an area I deemed unsafe for either my guests or children.

Sincerely,

Chris Spaeth
